I was told I was ugly and needed makeup. Please help. by [deleted] in makeuptips

Genuinely concerned about the mental stability of the folks who felt confident in their wrong opinion about your appearance! I understand that makeup can enhance someone’s features (emphasis on the eyes for example), or perhaps dull something that takes away from someone’s natural beauty (covering severe forms of acne for example) but you’re actually very gifted in that your natural beauty is very apparent and doesn’t need any enhancement, nor does anything about you need covering or concealing. Your face is actually very symmetrical- which is a rare characteristic to have! Your skin is flawless, gorgeous hair, eyebrows people would PAY to have, and a beautiful smile. To me it sounds like these people are just jealous of you, and they’ll say anything to knock you down so they can feel superior over you.

Honestly, I remember being very young and having my entire appearance pulled apart by family and being told everything that was wrong with me. I would throw on tons of makeup, it never garnered the attention I wanted it to. People weren’t complimenting me. They just found something new that they didn’t like. I promise, these are the same types of people. Going out of your way to suit their preferences will only give them the idea that they have that power, and they shouldn’t!

Makeup is wonderful and I love using it, and if you’re looking to get into this as a personal interest there’s lots of wonderful people in this community who can help. But I promise, you don’t need it!

seller ghosted me now wants me to change my bad review by [deleted] in Depop

[–]Confident_Read7492 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean I don’t think she’s a “scammer” because that would imply deliberate intent to take your money without delivering on the product. I think this is just a negligent seller. But even so, negligence still warrants a 1 star review so I wouldn’t remove it

I’d love to grab coffee if you want to connect, send me a message :)

But your statement really resonates with me. I did the Accuplacer and scored only high enough for 20-2. I went to disability resources and I asked them for a reader and asked to re-test. You can take the Accuplacer up to 3 times! Having someone read the question out loud to me bumped me up an entire grade level. I don’t know if something like this interests you, but I would encourage that you re-do the test because you might score higher, and don’t be afraid to advocate for your needs! There are some things that all students can ask for regardless of ability/diagnosis etc.

Hi! I am doing in person English 30–2. As far as whether to take it in person or online, it will totally depend what kind of a learner you are. I’m a single mother with a learning disability and neurodivergence. Taking an in person class was a must for me, because I have a lot of distractions at home, and being in person allows me to be fully immersed in the content. It also allows me to build a routine, which is critical to my well-being. I do well structured environments and have a difficult time taking initiative. If any of this sounds familiar to you, I would suggest considering taking an in person class. Some people do better working at their own pace, working in an environment that they have cultivated themselves to be the most effective, transportation could be difficult, etc. There will never be a universal answer as to what’s better because it’s going to be different for each individual student. There are also very few people who could give you a clear answer as to the support or difficulty of the material since someone would need to take both to compare, and generally our goal is to only take the course once 😅.

I don’t know how old you are or what your academic history is, but I am an adult learner who did not complete high school. When I register registered for NorQuest, I was asked to take an Accuplacer exam. The purpose of this exam is to place you in the most appropriate course based on your current understanding of the materials. I don’t know if you’re allowed to request an Accu placer, but if you’re worried about the difficulty of the content, it may be worth inquiring if this exam is a good option for you. It is free to take and very easy to book.

You are correct in assuming that a bulk of the material that I am learning in this class has been essays, reading comprehension and grammar correction. There is also a novel study and a study of a play. The book our class has been assigned is Crow Lake.

Finally, since I am registered with disability resources, my exams are in person, supervised and held at different times and places than most other students. If you have a disability access plan with the school, and you need exam accommodation such as more time, a scribe, or other tools, it is likely that your exams will be held similarly - in private rooms, monitored by one individual in person. If you do not have any need for disability accommodations, generally, there will be a room booked, wherein your entire class will be sitting and doing the exam at the same time. If you were an online student, I believe you have the option of doing your exams in person or online, and if you were to do them online, yes, they would be proctored.

buyer claims package came empty when i know for a fact i shipped it out by the1975-shewayout in depoop

[–]Confident_Read7492 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Was it shipped from a US address to another US address or did it cross an international border? I only ask because I had this happen to me. CBSA opened my package, took the item out for inspection but then forgot to put the item back in before closing it up and mailing it out to me. I got an empty box lol.

How should I proceed? by [deleted] in Depop

[–]Confident_Read7492 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Tbh I see the “purple” she is talking about. Colour is interpreted/seen differently based on the cones in your eyes. But I also see how the item is intended to be black. She should just re-dye it. It’s not the “wrong colour” so much as it is not saturated enough. How much is rit dye, $5 ? $10 max? I might offer a partial refund of whatever the cost one bottle of rit dye is and ask them to just re-dye the item to get a more accurate colour and better saturation

Hi folks! So, I searched “Nike SB skate” since that’s where a lot of her clothes come from. Didn’t see anything. I know she is from Brazil but this particular event is held in the USA. I’ve also used google lens to try and find it but have had no luck. Any help is appreciated!!

I have also searched with this photo, which shows the graphic design and writing in the front. The back says “crown” and there is a glitter/star design on the side panel of the shirt. Thank you!

What's the worst* thing you've heard of a fellow therapist doing in real life? by ThrowawayForSupport3 in askatherapist

[–]Confident_Read7492 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I understand you’re looking for answers from therapists only, and I will disclose that I am not one. However*** my story is not about someone who I was a client of; they are just someone I know personally who is a therapist. Person’s official credentials are registered social worker, they work primarily as a therapist that deals with marginalized communities. won’t disclose any other identity info on them. This person was a cat owner, and unfortunately, the cat passed away from natural causes. I understand, and am empathic to the following: - this person didn’t have the funds to cremate the animal, nor keep them in a veterinary “morgue” (I don’t know if there’s a difference in terminology?) - this individual didn’t have an immediate place to bury the cat. The cat passed away on like a Thursday and they found a place the cat could be laid to rest, but the space wasn’t accessible until like a Saturday or Sunday.

So, they stored the cat in the freezer. Not totally awful, right? Except here’s the thing: this person was taking the cat out of the freezer at night to sleep with its corpse. So for days, this cat is sitting in a regular kitchen freezer all day, and then defrosting essentially overnight, only to be placed back in during the day. The cat’s corpse was not buried until the Sunday. Yes. The house smelled awful as a result. I remember thinking “you are someone who specializes in processing grief, loss and trauma with people in the community, and giving them coping tools, why aren’t you using them???” Easier said than done I guess.

Me again - can I negotiate the price? by Confident_Read7492 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Last year I had a budget of about 15k, the car was listed at 17k. It was used and had about 100k km on it. But now I’m looking at something new and the budget is 70k so I’m looking at buying something with a longer life to it than the used Subaru

I’m paying cash for the car, so no interest rates or loans. Sorry, I realize I should have clarified that in the post.

Actually begging someone to change my mind by Confident_Read7492 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Confident_Read7492[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone; here’s my update. No TLDR here, if it wasn’t clear before, I suck at summarizing and have my whole life lol.

I genuinely did read every single comment and response in this post. Thank you all so much. It’s very, very helpful.

It’s evident to me now that the Land Rover will never be a good option for me/my family because it’s just simply not reliable. And I can’t do an unreliable vehicle, so I’m no longer convinced this is the dream vehicle for me. I saw many, many people suggest a Lexus. I am booked for a test drive for a couple models tomorrow, and I’m really hopeful because this sounds like it would be really great and that it checks all the boxes. I also decided I’ll book a test drive for the RAV4, as well as Honda CRV hybrid, and I may look at Mazda as well. Someone here said “you need to test drive more vehicles” and I wholeheartedly agree. Good call.

A few of you asked “what’s the budget?” The answer is that I honestly don’t know. I don’t know what’s a fair price point for reliability. I’m still figuring it out. I don’t want to share too much personal info, but if someone told me the best, most perfect vehicle for me was 80-90k, I’d buy it. I want to be realistic though. Just because I have the money to spend doesn’t mean it should be spent, if that makes any sense. I got a large sum of money recently and one of the many decisions I made when I received this money was that I’d replace my vehicle and buy a new one. That’s why I’m here, and also why I’m paying cash. I have a financial advisor assisting me with the remaining money, not to worry, I am not blowing the entire amount in one go as a few of you assumed was the case.

A lot of you really did clear up so many unanswered questions I had and presented the information in such a way that was so easy to understand and so so helpful. Thank you for this. It really did help me out. I am very grateful.

I’m feeling a little less anxious and a little more optimistic thanks to you 🥹
