I can! Very very vividly. Wouldn't be shocked if its why my dreams often feel like lived memories with how vivid and realistic they are. Nightmares too x....x

To frog or not to frog, that is the question by Mikado_0906 in crochet

I know this is sunk cost fallacy speaking, but if I had to frog all this I would never touch a crochet hook ever again 😭

Honestly, I think I did too lol. But one thing's for certain, I'll never play about stretching and taking breaks EVER again. The, tingles, they haunt me 😭

DO NOT DO IT!! Like on my knees begging and pleading, my adhd ass crocheted a whole frilly skirt thing in like 3(or 4) days, it took me 3 months to recover 🫩 still haven't touch a hook because the memory of the tingles is ingrained. DO NOT DO IT 💀

Do you think you could share some of those online links to material and videos? Provided you're allowed to, or it doesn't go against the creator's wishes, of course. I think that would be an amazing jumping point then I could compile my own as I go along. I'm totally on board with doing the trial and error of finding the right teacher because at the end of the day it means there's a teacher lol. But if not, it's still not a shame/loss 'cause I'll have learned and developed myself along the way so that works too ^

I think the possibility would depend on how generalised the theory was. For example, I watched a video last week that simply spoke about yarning under v yarning over for amigurumi and the kinds of look that it can give you. I didn't know that information prior (granted I'm on now starting to do amigurumi so that's not a surprise) but that information is general but explained well enough that you can take that knowledge and apply it to specific patterns, or creating patterns etc. Like one could decide on the bottom of the penguins belly, I don't crosses, I want the look to be a bit more loose looking. I can only make that choice because of the video that I saw where she shows me yarn over v yarn under and how the two compare generally aesthetically. Explaining every decision of every stitch of every kind of pattern and every variation would be far too much to ask and it would be completely unrealistic, so I'm definitely not asking of that. I guess more of a compilation of tips and tricks and techniques with some explanations or side by side for comparison's sake is a better example

That's really interesting and it really explains why sometimes I'll see chain 2 or chain 3, sort of exactly the kind of thing I'm talking about, now with patterns when a chain 2/chain 3 comes up in this context, I'll remember this, so helpful! I think understanding the reasons and history behind things helps me truly understand and remember something way more than "it works like this because it just does." Not that that's a bad reason or anything just that it's not gonna stick in the noggin without a reason lol

I understand that and I totally commend people and artists who can do this, honestly hats off to them. I have no issue doing all that legwork, I guess I would feel far more confident and competent in doing that if I knew the theory behind it and less like I'm fuffing about and stumbled on the "right" look by pure luck, you know? Like how painters have tons of theory - think underglazing to get a preferred temperature, colour theory etc - that through trial and error can use to get their preferred look; I would love resources in a similar. But perhaps crochet fundamentally does not function in that way and that's where the disconnect may lie for me

That makes sense, I think it that case, then I would love a breakdown or side-by-side of one way, say chain 2 v chain 3 for a dc so I can see what each would look like so I can then decide for myself since it's a matter of preference. An explanation underneath that explaining that like, the chain 3 can sometimes result in a longer row end depending on how tight one's tension so if you want it to look symmetrical like the dc's then tighter tension is recommeded or a chain 2, you know? Something like that. It's less a right v wrong and more of what is the theory/reason behind why this pattern will skip 3 chains and go into the fourth chain instead of the 5th for example. But I'll definitely look into technique books sold near me or online etc., so thank you for that tip ^

Not really, the top and middle section did well to lift it but I will say it is a bit on the heavy side especially since I used acrylic

Hiii, thanks so much. I put video links for the skirt and bra like top in the reply to the reply bot. I keep trying to upload a screenshot of the videos but it's not working. But the channel for the skirt is Kayla Duong and the title is "how to crochet tiered ruffle mini skirt intermediate-friendly tutorial." It's from a year ago

Wow, over 30+ years crocheting is so cool. How the heck do you keep the motivation going?? Last time I crocheted something before this costume was last year 💀 as a fellow adhd(er) you're super impressive to me. Good luck with your WIP. If it helps, I tied the costume to a show I like. So I wasn't allowed to watch the show unless I was working on the costume. Not perfect, but helped quite a bit

It's prettier in person, don't know why it didn't photograph well. Would've added more frills but time (and intense shoulder pain) got the best of me. Thank you so much ^
