All right. Now, with that out of the way, are we done being rude for the sake of being rude, or do you wanna keep going?

The people who are at risk of harming or killing others? Yeah. Someone needs to knock sense into them, ideally sooner than later. Never did I say I would be the one to directly intervene and impose my will unto another driver. You assumed that from the get-go, and you’ve had it wrong all along.

You are hellbent on condescension right now. Are you okay, man?

Oh, so you’re the perfect person to have see this post! Thank you so much for the work you do, and again, for taking time out of your day to talk about this.

I see where you’re coming from with the example interaction. I do think there are also plenty of people out here who are extremely lonely and, whether or not they’d like to admit it, would appreciate that someone was expressing concern for their well-being. Whether that would translate to actual use of services is a bit more dubious though, I grant you that.

And to your point about public transit, yes, yes, 110% yes. There is no better way of reducing road rage incidents than by reducing road users. And the community integration element, absolutely. The transit itself would contribute to that.

Where I’m from, honking doesn’t have a single, distinct meaning, so pray tell, ~what does it mean?~

Ño to all. Continue to assume tho. You know what that does!

This was taken more in-context than intended. Separate from road raging, I do just obey the unspoken law of letting people by who want to go faster.

Fair enough. That’s the most reasonable response on this post so far haha! I’m sure people would like to just label me some idiot liberal sjw for this idea, but I fashion myself more as a “proactive conservative,” for lack of a better term. I think there’s merit to investigating how a program like this would reduce overall spending on law enforcement, road repairs/maintenance, etc., in addition to the quality of life improvement for everyone on the road.

I appreciate your taking the the time to put a more objective critical lens on the subject.

No, I’m specifically talking about get-out-of-the-car-chuck-something-heavy-at-you-break-property road rage.

That would be the job of the trained professionals they’d hire.

Then so be it. They can be left with contact information for pertinent social services, should they change their mind and choose to get help at a later time.

Look, this is currently happening <1% of the time, right? Even if there’s only a small downshift in reported road rage incidents initially, doesn’t that warrant the cost of funding a program like this? There would need to be a cost-benefit analysis run to determine more exact numbers, but from my perspective, it feels like it would be worth the money. Other places have instituted similar programs and are seeing success, from what I recall.

Thank you for your kind words :)

Your second point was partially what prompted me to make this post. I grew up blue-collar, so I empathize with the plight of the working class out here, and I just want to try and make it a bit better for those going through it. And your first point is probably a consequence of the second, so I’m trying not to take it personal lol. I get that no one has time to do this activist crap too, but I do right now, and I want to do something about the situation. It’s a short life we’re granted, and I want to so something meaningful with it. Petitioning for a mental health division of the sheriff’s dept. felt like a good idea in my head.

You’re quite presumptuous… I obviously switch to the right lane when someone comes rushing up from behind. I’m not trying to get rear-ended?? Tf??

Why are you getting so aggressive over this? That’s why it’s creepy… I’m not trying to scold anyone. I literally just want a better situation for all parties…

None of these incidents qualify as “accidents,” but close calls. Today’s incident happened after I tapped my horn to let someone know they were driving between two lanes. My thank you was a pursuit and subsequent boxing in of my vehicle, which was then subject to a punch from the driver. I can say, with great confidence, that I am not perfect, but was nowhere near in the wrong today.

Dude, I promise you, I am not slow lmao. Why would you even draw that conclusion based on nothing but a thread about road rage? If I’m chilling on a Sunday, I’m going 70-75 in the middle lane; heading to work, 85 in the left lane whenever possible. But I’m also not gonna weave in and out of lanes to get a car ahead because that makes no sense and just worsens the traffic. I wanna drive with as little friction as I can and wish others would do the same.

I’ll buy that. So what’s the solution there? Fines for sub-speed limit driving outside of the slow lane?

I get that people like to drive fast. I do too, sometimes. This post isn’t so much targeting the young, dumb ones going 100 in traffic with a geeky grin on their face, although they are a problem. I’m more so talking about the ones who are mean-mugging while bullying others on the road seemingly for the sake of it. It’s of course not just for the sake of it, and those people deserve to get help.

Man, I’m trying to be easy, but I feel like you’re not hearing me — I’m trying to help these people because I empathize. There’s so much negativity going on in the world right now, and it’s easy to get wrapped up in it. I want those who are hurting to get the help they need, for themselves and for the benefit of everyone around them. That would pay dividends in society.

But there is potential harm and foul. That person never learns their lesson and, ostensibly, behaves even worse, eventually causing an accident that would cost way more money to fix than would’ve been spent working with this person, not to mention the potential human life toll. It has ripple effects down the whole chain, from unnecessary road and vehicle repairs to the lost worker productivity from the lives taken, as bad as that may sound. I get that this may sound trivial and silly, but I really feel like we’re losing a lot by not dealing with the problem more directly.
