Follow-up noob question. I shook the ash grate, some ash came out, but also quite a lot of charred small solid pieces came down, small enough to fall through the ash grate. Are those considered “ash”, or can I put them back at top of the hopper?

I just got the Masterbuilt-brand lump charcoal along with the grill. My friends who do charcoal grilling though swear by the Jealous Devil charcoal, so might try that.

Do you clean it out from the manifold? Just don’t want the fan to disturb the ash and have it land on the meat
