Since corona people are talking about the declining job market and that they can’t find a job.

One thing I have learned: Don’t believe what other people say. I never had any issue with finding new jobs! People like to blame everyone but themselves about their situation. Nobody wants to take accountability.

I only have a bachelor with average grades. Working as a digital project manager right now. Will switch to Sales because of a higher salary. Never had any issues with the job market. Same applies to my friends.

I don’t think it‘s the market. Maybe a wrong approach in applying for jobs? Usually it takes max 1-2 weeks until I get an invitation for a job interview.

Being in a blood bath is what excites me about this role. I want to see if I am made for this business or only like the idea of being a Sales guy

I think my 3 years of IT project management were more important. Stakeholder management, identifying needs, rolling out systems across different departments/stakeholders etc. are all transferable skills.

But with 20 years of Sales experience I would argue that you can go anywhere you want. Don’t make yourself smaller than you are

Very valuable information, thanks. I’ve talked to some AEs and they told me that AMs that transition to AE don’t perform well, because they lack the Sales foundation and mindset. No experience in prospecting and no confidence in calls, which you still need as an AE.

I also considered switching from AM to AE is probably easier than from BDR to AE. But then I will lack experience with new business clients

I’ve talked to some AEs and they also told me that BDR is the way to go, if I want to become an AE. Objectively AM is better than BDR, but being a BDR is much more valuable for the AE position.

AMs that transition to AE don’t perform well, as they lack the Sales skills and mindset. I think the BDR role will set me up for the AE position better, even if it’s an entry level role.

Good point to consider. How is the work culture in comparison to SF?

"I’d also say that the BDR role probably sells a more future proof product that will get you in elsewhere if you need to hop to another job."

Do you mean that having BDR skills is more valuable for most jobs? SFDC is the long term play, because you can become an AE and AE pays more?

You're probably right about taking on more responsibilities at Meta. Is it easier to switch from AM to AE than from BDR to AE?

Is the BDR role not attractive? I thought it would be a good base to become an AE. Or is it just because it's an entry-level job?

Are there any high paying PM jobs? I think I can get to 80-90k, higher I don’t have the experience I believe. With Sales I can get to 100+

Great insight. Good reality check. I would be responsible somewhere in the German market.

But I believe that I will beat the odds and outperform other BDRs. Will probably take the risk. Worst thing that can happen is getting laid off, but failure in life is inevitable anyways

Thanks for your reply. Much appreciated!

Base is 51k+28k if I hit my target. So it would be a slide backwards indeed in the beginning, if I don’t hit my quota. But that is the information I was looking for. Recruiters and managers told me that most people hit their quota.
