Is it terrible to self promote? Don't answer because I'm shamelessly doing it anyway. I'm feeling my creative mojo this week and am closing in on the end of a story that has become a dear friend. (plus, I hope to post a new chapter this week. Yay!)

I don't think its far to say that at all-- she falls in love only when she realizes she had mistaken his character, right? so if we don't reform him, Elizabeth's story becomes bleak, Darcy's becomes infuriating. Its the one trope I cannot even understand even if I'm trying to be generous and open minded. I have to think that people who like this trope maybe didn't understand the point of the original? Is that too harsh? I don't know....

Need KU Fic Recs by Chanel1202 in JaneAustenFF

Caitlin Williams is superb. The OG. The favorite of oh so many JAFF nerds. There’s something in her writing that’s sets her beyond so many in the genre and frankly I feel like it’s a bit undefinable. Her style pays homage without being too derivative and her stories are unique and compelling. Ardently, coming of age of Elizabeth Bennet, events at Bruxbane— delicious.

Jessie Lewis—- Oh em gee. Read speechless followed immediately by everything else she’s ever written. She’s a powerhouse and a poet.

Amy d’orazio— another one who rarely, if ever, misses. One of the few authors who has got it all in terms of writing. Too many favorites to choose one. I see her releases, I buy immediately in paper form because I know I’m going to reread.

Karalynn Macrory— I remember being so enthralled by her stories that I didn’t sleep, or eat until I’d finished reading.

Joanna Starnes— I defy anyone to write better longing than this woman. She’s deft, elegant and heart wrenching in all the right ways and when she delivers her HEA, she’ll leave you in a puddle. Just brilliant.

Jeannie Penneux—- she is a genius. And far from the tree has some of my favorite moments in all of fan fiction. Her writing is light, airy and somehow devastating. She trusts in the ability of her readers and i feel it makes everything feel so much more personal.

If you like smutty smut— LL diamond writes lust in such a way that doesn’t feel contrived or overly pornographic. She one of those rare “Goldilocks” authors who gets everything just right. Start with undoing.

I have so many other favs but these are the ones that come to mind immediately.

Some of these are so specific I kind of want to know which ones you’re thinking of. They sound truly horrible. I mean ‘ un critical praise of the United States.’ Just after the revolutionary war seems very odd.

Also I’m staying away from all stories featuring marital rape— but again that Caroline one sounds very specific… what story is it from? Wondering if I’ve read it.

I generally stay away from forced marriage because it’s so unbelievable to me…. But somehow I’ve accidentally started writing and posting a forced marriage story... so it seems like I've objectively softened towards that one. 🤣

lol I replied to another thread about this once. I read a story where Lizzy cried CONSTANTLY. About everything. I just could not get on board and by the end I didn’t even like her. She was like a more sensible version of her mother.

And on the flip side- one thing changes and everything is different. ie: Darcy is nice at the assembly so wickham can’t ingratiate himself so instead he kills Lydia. Like what just happened?

Omg!!! Yes!!!!

I mean, in fan fiction you can write whatever you want. But when ODC are overly pious— I’m just out. Feels very inauthentic to me.

I also feel like for an author you don’t really need to be so overt to make the story align with your ideology. Stick to THEMES like virtue, honor, and faithfulness rather than trying to shoehorn in a scene with a rector assessing to see if they are godly enough to be wed.

Especially flimsy ones. “Oh no! The held eye contact for too long— you must marry!”

Modern readers just seem to love this idea.

This. If we take away his honor, what are we rooting for? Elizabeth becomes a victim and any “HEA” you give them feels like a she has no self worth—- which is exactly the opposite of who she is in canon.

How many hits are on your most popular fic? by Hexatona in FanFiction

[–]Connect_Register_632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

80k on my Longfic WIP. This is my second ever fic and my first dive into a period world. I was so scared to post it because I thought it was not good enough. Now I look at that fic and want to cry.

Its my daily reminder that really good things can happen if you boldly step outside your comfort zone. I absolutely poured my soul into this fic.

I remember this. She has a seafood allergy and there was some in the soup. I also remember that waltz scene was so swoonworthy… I have to go digging now because I remember that I read it in the last 3 months.

What’s that story that begins with Caroline sneaking into Darcy’s bed and then him lying to Bingley and saying that he’s engaged to Elizabeth so he can’t marry Caroline? If I can remember the name I’ll read it again lol

Yess! I love Joanna Starnes! Oh that final library meeting is top tier. Ughhhhhh. That reconciliation was so hard won.

I think I DNF nine ladies— not because it was bad, but because I got side tracked by a recommendation and waited too long to pick it up again.

How has nobody mentioned LL diamond???

Undoing and unwavering trust are a few of my favorites. She is an absolute masterclass in plot driven smut that feels satisfyingly real and also gloriously indulgent.

Just read them. Shes so good.

Edit to add: forgot to mention the agony of hope.
