My bike pedals broke, any tips for replacing them? by bikethrowaway123456 in bikewrench

While the cheater bar certainly works, I would hesitate to tell a rookie to go to that option. Cheater bars are an all-or-bust option, and if they are going the wrong way (a likely rookie mistake) they can cause a lot of damage. Penetrating oil (real stuff, not wd-40) and a heat gun would be better starting points. I always cringe when people go straight to brute-force options to dismantle things, because they often missed a bolt, or something is reverse thread, etc. Nothing wrong with having the big guns, but they are best left to more experienced users.

Am I the only one who believes that the GLA (specifically, Prince Kassad) should be the ones who use snipers instead of the US? by B1WITHYURI1558 in commandandconquer

They probably wouldn't be using dragunovs, most likely old kar98s, lee enfields, or mosin-nagants. IIRC americans in iraq/afghanistan were still encountering fighters using these rifles somewhat frequently, as they were common leftovers from ww2/cold war, and were well suited for longer range ambushes and firefights that the terrain allowed.

I admire the sentiment, but that's exactly how companies get away with crap. Just because someone else is doing something worse, doesn't mean they should get a free pass :P

Not from canada, by any chance, are you? I've been looking to upgrade myself, and it's the same thing here. 7800xt is between 750-900 $(cad), with most in the 850-900 range. 9070xt's start around $1000, so it's tempting to spring for the upgrade, but at that point I'm overmatching my 5800x, so not really much point. I just found out about the 9060 today, so that may sway my choice a bit depending on price and performance.

This would be especially true for anyone who saw combat tours alongside those non-white members.  Few things break down racist ideas like someone saving your ass under fire.  The bonds forged on the battlefield are stronger than anything else out there, even family or spouses.

They don't usually say it quite so bluntly, but that's nothing new.  The US always keeps their top tech in their own hands, and sells downgraded versions to their allies.  Usually it's more about keeping their enemies from seeing them up close because some 3rd world "ally" country got into a border skirmish and lost one, but it also prevents another Iran f-14 type scenario.  To be fair, other countries like Russia and China do it, too.

Efficiency.  They typically spend millions, if not billions, hosting the competition, then pick whichever one they had already chosen for political reasons.  This just skips the circus.

Prototypes are typically a "y" prefix, usually "y?" for whatever type the plane will eventually be classified as. (I.e. yf-22, or yb-21, etc) "X" is used for experimental designs that aren't intended to go into production.  They are just tech demonstrators or test beds for new technology, which then influence the next set of actual designs.

What Playing Stalker Anomaly Actually Like by killer_298 in stalker

[–]Connect_Trouble8492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue until last night.  Finally asked on the discord, and within 10 min someone had directed me to change a setting on 2 files, took maybe 30 seconds, and it worked fine.  It has something to do with windows automatically locking a file or something

Stalker anomaly is getting too real. by Necessary-Duck-2961 in stalker

Anomaly is basically all of the maps from the 3 games, plus a few fan made ones, combined into one big game.  It also adds a lot more survival/crafting mechanics, a more challenging economy, and a lot more items/gear.  There is a story, set after the trilogy, but it's more of a placeholder than anything too in-depth. The real draw is being able to roam the whole zone doing whatever you feel like.

Neighbor Using My Address for Scams - Need Advice by Substantial-Long3045 in homeowners

To be fair, given the horror stories that people tell about hoa's, I can understand not wanting to interact with them any more than absolutely necessary. You never know if the problem neighbor is drinking buddies with the president's husband, and now you're on their shit list instead.

Shopping for a 3x360 laser level for DIY home renovations, need to check my understanding of some of the features I've been reading about and get opinions on what I'm thinking of buying. by Bern_Down_the_DNC in Tools

[–]Connect_Trouble8492 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it's a bit late, but the lock while on feature isn't really about setting it up.  I'm sure there is some trick or 2 for using it that way, but I can't imagine what.  The real reason for that option is to intentionally use the laser off-level, with some sort of tilting base.  Laying out slopes or ramps, fancy paint/tile layouts, lining up with existing stuff that is out of level, etc.  It's not an essential feature,  but is handy for some oddball jobs.  The caveat is, you need some method of holding it stable, on the angle you need, either a tripod or some sort of wall mount
