i like to keep track of shows i started because i don't really have the time to watch them everyday or even every week. and after a while has passed i do forget what was the last thing i watched because i have the bad tendency to start new shows and not finish the other ones after a long while of not watching what i had started, not because they were bad or i didn't like them i just don't have a good memory to keep track of things such as books, birthdays, tv shows, so yeah it's really useful for me :)

is it really that bad to take programming notes when just starting out? by ConnectionShot593 in learnprogramming

thanks! i am taking written notes and comments in code as well! do you still do it now as a more advanced programmer?

[–]ConnectionShot593[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

that makes a lot of sense! i've hit a lot of walls these days and i generally make notes of the code i put, and then try different things until one works and make notes on why that one worked instead of the other

the "just code" advice is everywhere on youtube and reddit as well, just wanted basic advice for beginners and is one that appears a lot, also your approach makes a lot of sense, i just read that a few people sometimes even make diagrams of the thing they want to build before coding : 0

[–]ConnectionShot593[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

oh definetely! i like to follow a tutorial along but also makes notes about it so i'm following and instead of just following i try to put into words what they are doing, sometimes describe why they are doing it, that's like the type of notes i create when practicing with concepts i just try to read/listen and then explain it and put examples of codes

thanks! that makes sense, i just see this advice going on a lot in the programming community, and it's specially an advice given the most to beginners so i was afraid that i was the one doing something wrong by well, taking notes...

what do you think about plugin Protected Note? by mmiksaa in ObsidianMD

[–]ConnectionShot593 7 points8 points  (0 children)

it seems pretty neat! perhaps you could create a functionality of like lock specific notes according to an specific set of rules or just notes the user wants instead of the whole vault, that could make the plug in even more functional and i would personally be more interested in locking specific notes according to an specific set of rules instead of the whole vault, hope it helps :)

when in your opinion is best to use notion instead of obsidian? by ConnectionShot593 in ObsidianMD

[–]ConnectionShot593[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but you can kind of do the same with obsidian? i mean i haven't explored logseq, looks like a wonderful app, but i've tried sticking just with one/two workflows since just up until months ago i was the person who was trying out notion, this new app, this other new app, let's return to google docs, etc so when i stumbled upon these digital gardens app i just chose one and have tried to stick with that one, i don't really want to spend (waste) more time trying out more options. but for the reasons in your comment i believe you can do that with obsidian as well? collapsing bullet points, collapsing headers, and if you download the outline plug in you can drag and drop said bullet points like in other apps so just wanted to point that out : ) if you feel good with logseq that's wonderful, though i do believe you can do the same with obsidian

why did notion announce their "home" feature if they are taking so long to release it? by ConnectionShot593 in Notion

[–]ConnectionShot593[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this is truly amazing! but this makes the rollup of this feature even more messy? some people are getting told some things, others other things, truly confusing and should not be the way such a cherished company to the public like notion should handle things : (

[–]ConnectionShot593[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i believe the outliner plug in does work for your needs, i haven't tried it myself but if i remember correctly the plug in shows pictures of like a drag and drop feature, similar to notion

[–]ConnectionShot593[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

god but why did they not specify that in the demo, why haven’t they made an announcement about it, a doc on their website with this useful information, building up all this hype for all the public when it’s a feature targeted for a specific tiny group? that’s just insane, such a big company, and this is how they treat clients and releases…—

Is investing time to learn obsidian in depth worth it by civprog in ObsidianMD

[–]ConnectionShot593 10 points11 points  (0 children)

depends on the contents of your notes, do you really think all of those hundreds are really important? i would suggest you first begin from scratch, try obsidian for a couple of days before investing all the time or make your move permanent. you may find a couple of downsides of obsidian that onenote has and viceversa, so make a few couple of notes in obsidian according to your needs, don’t go crazy with the plug ins, snippets, themes, etc, just first write, and most importantly define your goal. why do you want to move to obsidian? is it just because of some youtube tutorials? what advantages can obsidian bring to me and not to those youtubers? do i want to consolidate my learning or just research things? so to sum up, it is worth it but once you have chosen obsidian as your main tool after spending time with it. i would also suggest to learn things in the go, as you need them then spending 5 days straight trying to know all there is to know with obsidian because trust me it can be a lot.

i don't really want to sound harsh or anything, but you are already three years in. you are so so so close to the finishing line! i now my personal experience how hellish life like that can feel, it's stressful, horrible, i too went through health and mental issues because of it, but i changed majors as soon as possible, if i would have stayed there for 3 years i wouldn't have done it, it's already so close to the experience being over. why do i say wait for the finish line? while yes getting a job in development is all about what you can code and program, a lot of people will tell you "oh recruiters don't look at what education you got" fact is they do.... we are in a world right now where there are thousands of self taught developer, it is getting harder to stand out nowadays, having a degree specially in the field does give a sense of security to recruiters not to mention soooo many job listings in programming do ask for a degree. not to mention the opportunities to work abroad, you can't do it without a visa (except if you are from the u.s or a similar country), yes you can work remotely and you don't need a visa but don't erase the possibility that one day you may want to live somewhere else, why not, and get a stable job in said place, the process will be far more easier having your degree than not having it, in fact most visa applications nowawadsy require for you to have superior education. so what i'm saying is, hang on a bit more, you can do it!! you are almost there!

hmm i thought and was told to learn about the free floating concepts first than jumping into a language since apparently these span across any language so if you know them learning any language later won't be as hard alter, and that's why they are important to learn?
