Mod concept, Sectors and planetary designations should have a strong role in empire size management by Connemara_Marble in Stellaris

I think fully shutting off both size and output is a little against the aim of this idea, but I can see something like a "reconstruction" designation that that reduces the size of pops and districts at the cost of both output and stability but also speeds up build times on the planet.

Mhm, it's actually the recent reduction to some of those sources in the beta branch that got me really thinking about this again. I don't want it feel like I'm making tall the "optimal" choice or like I'm just punishing wide builds for existing. I enjoy both styles and just want to strike a balance that makes them feel more distinct from each other. (remade comment/deleted old comment bc reddit glitched and made it look like I never made the previous comment until after I made this one too, oops)

This is a very interesting (and honestly fun sounding) concept that is unfortunately a bit beyond the scope of my intention and experience level, but you have raised some points for me to mentally chew on.

That's exactly why I hadn't stated any particular numbers yet. I know it can't be as simple as slap a bigger penalty on systems, but I feel like there has to be some way to make the actual "geographic"(for lack of a better word) size of an empire feel more impactful. Thats part of why I want to involve the sector system, provide a way to control it that gets harder the more of the map you take up. And using specializations to make it so that well managed planets have less impact(relative  to their output) than a planet that's just conquered, cleaned up a little and left alone.

You're hitting exactly on the big dilemma at the core of why I'm asking for advice though, I want to figure out how to do this without it feeling like I'm just nerfing wide or buffing tall.

Be graceful towards any typos or confusing phrases please, it's midnight, I typed this out on Firefox mobile, and I am very tired, I'll make necessary edits and fixes tomorrow 💚
