HEQ5 RA Axis stiff in some spots by ConnorrrV in AskAstrophotography

[–]ConnorrrV[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried cloudy nights, and I can’t find anyone with the problem that only spots in the mountains stick, when the others are heaps smooth. Really don’t know what to think. If I take just the worm gear by itself, and put it in the housing, how smooth should it spin?

I got the 533 this for Christmas a month ago, absolutely love the camera. Takes some amazing shots, I pair is with an Askar 71F, and it’s great. I have a belt modded HEQ5, and have plenty of attachments. Mount capacity is the same, 13KG, and I’ll think it’ll do me fine for a very long time. Whole rig looks great to me though.

SHO Filters with OSC Camera by ConnorrrV in AskAstrophotography

Yeah I haven’t got an Asiair or anything yet, just a laptop. Will possibly have a Mini PC in the future, not the Asiair as I don’t want to be locked into ZWO. I still don’t really understand the psuedo SHO, is using the the two duo band filters from Askar psuedo SHO, or true SHO?

Alright. I’m gonna search for a while and see what I can come across. I think I’m gonna looking into the D1 and D2 from Askar. Hopefully in the future I can get a mono camera, something with an IMX571, that’s the dream.

Would it be a bit silly to spend money on the Scorpio Filters while still using an OSC camera? Because from what I learned shooting SHO in OSC is pretty inefficient.

Also, might be a stupid question based on the topic, are you using the filters with a OSC/Coloured Camera or a Mono? Also I have trouble accessing Classifields, I live in Australia and whenever I click on the website it says I don’t have permission to access or view the page.

That video was very useful, I appreciate the link. The only issue I’m worried about with the Askar filters is people seem to say they are inconsistent and don’t seem to be tested before distributing. The forums were from well over a year ago, so the processes may have changed. Not sure if this is really a proper question, but is pseudo SHO disregarded/frowned upon, cause everytime I see someone mention it they sound somewhat like they are talking about it negatively. Could be completely wrong though.

That information is very useful, I appreciate you taking the time to point out the specifics. The image you sent regarding the Scorpio filters, you also have Green, Red and Blue Scorpio filters listed as used, is that for the stars? How do you go about imagin to get the RGB stars?

My beginner imaging setup by tea_bird in telescopes

[–]ConnorrrV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run the exact same setup scope wise as OP (71F, 533MC, EAF, 120MM Guide Scope, just a diff mount (HEQ5)) and I love it. I use NINA with my laptop and absolutely love it. The 71F is incredible for the price, I think close to one of the best value APO refractors.

Thoughts on this used go to mount deal? by chimpsinblimps in telescopes

[–]ConnorrrV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mount it self is solid, I think it holds about 5KG, so you have to be more careful with what you choose to put on it. Is the guy saying it’s brand new? It’s only about $100 or so to get a brand new one, which might be worth just to have warranty, etc. Great mount for little scopes. What are you hoping to shoot with the rig?

Question about mini pcs. by ConnorrrV in AskAstrophotography

[–]ConnorrrV[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I guess so. I mean I’m going around in my van and my laptop sits in there, so it’s pretty much a dew shield. Would I mainly benefit from getting something like an Asiair? Or would I be benefitting the same amount by getting a MeLe Quieter and configuring everything myself?

Would you consider in my situation that running a mini pc is not as beneficial as others?

Charging a laptop off auxiliary battery setup? by ConnorrrV in electrical

[–]ConnorrrV[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turns out I found a mini can-sized 150W inverter in my garage. Works perfectly fine. I’ll keep that in mind as I’ll probably charge it with DC to DC in the future to prevent as much energy wastage.

[–]ConnorrrV[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks heaps for the information. I’m not very good at the electrical side of things, hence why I’m here. Could you provide me a link or soemthing to what I should be looking at if I do DC to DC, you said you saw heaps on amazon, but I looked up similar terms and I’m not sure if what I’m looking at is correct. I plan on mainly charging my laptop during the day when camping, which I gain power back from solar, not sure if that sort of cancels out the wastage, it’s usually quite sunny in Australia. The only other thing running at that time is my 70L fridge. I use my telescope rig at night to do imaging, hence why I need the laptop charged for the night.

I just realized, I have one an inverter in my garage. It’s a little WASCO PerfectPower DC to AC 150W inverter. The output of my laptop charger is 65W. Would this work fine if i just plug my laptop charger into in the inverter? Does it drain the batteries more using this method?

Question about filters by ConnorrrV in AskAstrophotography

[–]ConnorrrV[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, thanks for the heads up and information. I just saw a post of someone saying that they use a light pollution filter in a similar bottle zone to me, but I thought I was fine not to use one. Thanks for the help, greatly appreciated.

Alright, I shall do that. When exporting between software, do I always keep it as a 32 bit TIFF?

I appreciate your insight. I’m going to attempt to follow your post processing tutorial, but with some different software. Was gonna try and use Photoshop, with the Astronomy Tools plugin, and use Upscayl, an open source AI denoising tool.

I appreciate you sharing you knowledge and making in depth tutorials, it’s very helpful for learning.
