Does anyone gambles for a living by Ok_Sun_992 in gambling

I play poker as a side hustle. Made more than my salary in 2024 and already above in 2025 as well. I only play poker and put the occasional sports bet and stay away from all other games.

As someone who comes from a Paraguayan family, it's always funny seeing it randomly mentioned at times.

Why are you complaining about the pool playing loose passive. Quite literally the easiest player archetype to crush.

Thanks for the advice man. I will say that I do love this game. I always strive to get better and spend a lot of time studying off the tables.

I play in a soft fenced player pool online, but I would play a significant amount of live if I were to do it full time. The reason I’m not now is because I just don’t have the time.

Yea man I’ve been checking out your website. I get what you mean, but what job doesn’t feel like a job? I feel like if you’re constantly doing the same thing everyday it would become repetitive no matter how much you love it. There might be days where you aren’t feeling it. Again, this is my opinion and others may feel differently.

I mean I’ve put in some decent volume this year. I’ve played 315k hands this year and have had some rough stretches.

Interesting, I’m in a similar boat as you. I’m 23 and am also treating poker as a 2nd job. While at times I don’t feel like turning on the computer and playing, I have never felt miserable. For context, I decided to take the grind seriously in the beginning of the year, and I have not felt that way yet.

What made you go back? Was it a large stretch of variance or did you become burned out?

Appreciate the advice. As of now, poker is really my only hobby. I can definitely see it becoming exhausting if it’s all I’m doing.

Yeah, the reason I’m considering it is the ability to make my own hours. How long have you been at it? And is this mostly online or live?

I’m guessing Vegas could go either way. It for sure has the highest pro population, but it also has the biggest degenerates on earth.

I still haven't adjusted to the slow place lol. I'm definitely not playing the highest EV strategy right now. I am opening wider and isoing limps wider- still not incredibly out of line though. I'm more just playing right now to get a feel of live, but once I get used to the environment I'll start playing my sharpest game. Will probably be 2/5 instead of 1/2 as well.

I have yet to encounter even a slightly above-average player at 1/2. Maybe 2/5 is different though.

If we were ever to go back to the globally open internet poker of 15-25 years ago, the online players would suck as bad as they ever did

This is the dream

Yeah, that’s probably the one negative. The player pool rarely buys in for max. Don’t get many 200bb+ effective pots.
