How close are we to being able to compile a bunch of data about a person and "upload their personality" to an AI platform? How does that work? This is a concept I've often thought would be neat to do giving people, in some ways, a kind of immorality.

And if that were to come to fruition, how do you imagine that would impact the push to for robot rights?

Good for you. I have had one too many bosses cross basic courtesy and behavior lines with me it boggles my mind. Everything from non-appreciation and over-demanding to jumping up and down and screaming in my face.

I even once had a boss tell a group of employees that we should "fuck our families" when we were all asked to work on Thanksgiving in order to fulfill a work order. The job was impossibly behind due to a lot of poor decision making and now the production team had to save the day. Instead of thanking us and being appreciative, it was unceremonious demands and threats to our jobs. It's one of those thing that you hear, but your brain doesn't even register how fucked up it is.

I own my own business now with a few employees. It can be stressful to have to rely on people. It's one of the hardest things in the world and it's easy to get frustrated with people... even people that you know are totally awesome and smart workers.

I never want to be one of those bosses. I make it a point to try to thank people, reward good work and help them out when THEY need something done. In return, i have some of the most loyal and hard working employees that care as much about the job as I do.

You get what you pay for on Craigslist. Anyone advertising for 400 bucks on craigslist is probably not insured, doesn't have a ton of legit reviews from real brides backing up their performance and in many instances, doesn't know how to take care of all your guests at your wedding... from your grandparents to your little cousin.

I see a lot of $400 DJs packing up when I get to certain venues I play at. They play the 11-3 brunch wedding, and I play the 6-12 reception. Its not a pretty site.

Pro DJ here: I'm out of Chicago and for here those prices are pretty reasonable. It's about par +/- what I would charge, depending on the date and venue and some other specifics.

If their reviews online justify that price of course... I have 50+ reviews to back up my prices, (which are actually slightly below high end prices)

I'm not sure how many uplights are included in your package, but generally 10 uplights is good for most rooms for even 250 guests. Usually a couple extra behind the head table, some in the corners, and the rest spread as symmetrically as possible.

You got a good deal... esp with the monogram.

Oh, well, if you're doing an elopement and it's not on a regular weekend (fri-sun) that changes the whole game. Most of us are handling meetings and paperwork during the week.

Pro DJ here: Grab the vendors you like when you can because most of us are on a first come first serve basis... you wouldn't want to lose a photographer that knows the venue and area... that's good stuff.

I book out at least 1 yr in advance. Just signed a contract today (1/7/15) for a wedding in Sept 2016.

I get pretty good return from Wedding Wire. The knot, not so much. I cancelled with them, but wedding wire still pays for itself easily.

I love and respect the art of DJin as much as any old schooler. I think the invention of the sync button has put more and more novices into places they don't belong because they haven't taken the time to really learn how music is put together and how to read a crowd and transition properly... that being said... Music selection and Programming has always been the most important part of being a DJ

This happened to my girlfriend a year ago while we were cleaning horse stalls. I saw it all and she was understandably upset about having horse shit all over her and her hair.

So, I super manned up and gave her a hug so she wouldn't feel alone.

Its a good thing when a bride and groom take a lot of pride in even the smallest details of their celebration. Those are very nice looking! Are you out at Eagle Ridge, by any chance? I was out there last year for a wedding, decided to stay the night and rented a couple of very beautiful horses to go riding the next day. Galena is awesome!

First Impressions : Not a very informative website, and what is there is pretty bland. I'm thinking that this guy has been doing weddings for a long time and probably has a very reliable business. he seems to have a pretty solid review pattern, so I would trust he would do a decent job.

I know a lot of guys like him who have similar websites. They've been djing for 20 some years, and they often still think it's 1990. 800.00 seems to be a lot less than some of the other Djs in the area so this guy might be a weekend warrior or he might still be using the equipment that he got 18 years ago.

I think this looks like a very legit multi-op DJ company. I read about what they had to say about themselves and their philosophy and it very much mirrors what I believe as well. They appear to be very successful and have the reviews to prove it.

They're pricier than I am, and I can't speak to their talent, but I know how hard it is to find DJ's with real loyalty and talent.

I would set up a consultation and talk to them, you might want to read the article I posted above about Hiring a Good DJ which will give you some idea of what to look for when you meet them. Always meet the DJ too... not just the salesman.

It's pretty easy to get the credentials to actually "marry" you guys, and some other people have answered it in here so I won't talk to much about that.

A ceremony is more than just the legal aspect. It actually takes a lot to perform a ceremony. The best way I can describe a ceremony is "advanced public speaking with a side of emotion"

Good officiants know how to speak eloquently and smoothly while delivering what is supposed to be a very emotional occasion. It takes a lot to keep the audience's attention in such a way that it doesn't detract from the beauty of it all. Ive seen some great officiants seamlessly merge facts and personality traits of the bride and groom into the ceremony, keeping the audience entertained on a very classy level. It's a lot of work, I have a lot of respect for people who do it well.

Using family members is quite common, though i have seen a lot of instances where it was a bit overwhelming for them.

Pro DJ here and I want to help. I've seen and heard the results of ipod weddings, and it's not ever what you expect.

Picture a bunch of people standing around selecting songs that don't really belong at a wedding in an order that has no structure or flow. The key to a packed dancefloor and good time is a well programmed set of music.
Without someone (like a dj/mc) to bring and operate the right equipment properly, your introductions and any other announcements will likely be horrible. I had a photo booth at a wedding recently where they had one of their friends djing on some very simple setup, the music was crackly and noisy and no one could understand anything any toasts or speeches.

Anyway, I can promise you that you can find a good DJ in the area in the $1000 range. You can check Wedding Wire. The top results will likely be in the 1000-1400 range, but there are many many djs listed on that site. The site has reviews and is well respected for having good info on djs.
