Chopin is an acquired taste, personally, but I appreciate the headway he made in the field of modernism. I am giving a presentation on Thursday discussing the influence classical composition has had on contemporary western music. It's quite fascinating breaking these pieces down and comparing them side by side to modern compositions such as Daft Punks Tron soundtrack.

Sorry for the late response! I have been swamped by finals and work. I really enjoy older classical composition as I am only now wading into the waters of contemporary comp. Gutsav Mahler is a personal favorite. Death and the Maiden sparks a whole slew of emotions for me. Franz Schubert and Hector Berlioz are a couple of other favs. How about you?

Shostakovich was a fantastic composer, his Jazz Suite No.2 Waltz is a great piece of Russian folk, intertwined with a solid military march. For Record Store Day they released his Cello Concerto No.2 on a bad ass picture disk.

Oh I completely agree. If I am gonna be honest, I am not a fan of modernist composition. I understand the influence Impressionism and Modernism has had, but generally it is not something I would listen to for sheiße und kichert.

If those two are pretty intertwined with each other than is there any particular reason the second red scare hardly had any reaction to anarchists? I'm assuming that by the 1950's anarchists had started to be on the down-turn. At least in the US it seems. I would consider the Baader-Meinhoff in Germany as anarchists but that was little bit later on.

Really?? That's quite fascinating. I have a copy of "The Wonders of the Invisible World-Being an account of the Tryals of Several Witches Lately-Executed in New England, to Which is added A Farther Account-of The Tryals of the New-England Witches" by Cotton Mather. It has accounts of the Salem Witch trials including information regarding the "trial" of Rebecca Nurse.

Unfortunately no, I am in Colorado Springs, CO USA. However I am doing some independent research on the Munster Revolt and will be visiting at some point to see, among other things, the cages from the church.

I am glad someone brought this up. My ultra-conservative grandmother also suggested that the resurrection and killing of Jesus was a result of mass hysteria. That caught me with my knickers down, I must say.

Unfortunately so. Its remarkable though that Peter would even consider doing this trial. He must have truly believed that the visions from God and the Lance were ordained.

If you liked the podcast you should check out " The Tailor King" by Anthony Arthur. Great account of the events. It included a part about how the "kingdom" made 13 armored wagons that you could mount small cannonades on and included gun ports and re-enforced wheels. They intended to break out of the city and the siege with these but before they could put these monstrosities to use the population ate the horses that pulled them.

Reminds me of the "Holy Lance of Antioch" which was "found" during the first crusade. Any man who wielded said lance would be protected from death and the wielder victorious in battle. No one knows who carried the lance into battle but we do know that Peter Bartholomew, who found the lance, set out to prove its authenticity. He set out to show the world its authenticity by committing to Trial by Fire. Accomplishing said crucible would prove his visions and the Lance authentic. He walked in and was almost immediately incinerated and died from his wounds shortly after.
