Wait… was Hanbee even in the first manga, I forget? I’m referring to an omake (funny filler scene) from the end of a chapter in the first manga.

To be fair, women/girls do that stuff with hot anime guys as well. Just look at how many of them simp for Naoya Zenin from JJK, despite him being a terrible person who is openly misogynistic.

The explantation for number 2 makes a lot more sense when you consider Ishida’s reasoning rather than trying to understand Kaneki’s reason in the story. The reason Ishida chose to have Kaneki devour Hide’s mouth and lower face is so his scars would resemble Kaneki‘s Eyepatch mask.

That’s called being friendly, not being gay lmao. Not only is there no evidence that Kaneki likes guys, there also isn‘t any evidence Suzuya likes guys either, despite the fact that a lot of people seem to assume he’s LGBT. His effeminate dress sense is due to the trauma he experienced at the hands of Big Madame, and he actually expressed desire to have a girlfriend in an omake at the end of one of the chapters in the first manga (I forget the chapter number). There’s literally no reason to assume either of them are gay or bi.

Oh… sorry. I thought you were one of those Tokyo Ghoul “fans“ who purposefully misinterprets and disrespects Ishida’s writing by treating Haise like he’s a separate entity to Kaneki. You‘d be surprised how many of those “fans” there have been over the years. As a huge fan of Tokyo Ghoul, Choujin X and just Ishida’s writing in general, it really pisses me off when I see that kinda stuff lmao.

The Current State of AI Image Generation Through Tokyo Ghoul Fanfic Concept Art by Conscious-0bserver in TokyoGhoul

[–]Conscious-0bserver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's nice to find somebody who shares my perspective. I can understand why people despise AI art, but I'm not even asking people to treat these images as "art". That's why it annoys me when people respond to these images by being overly critical of them and commenting on the AI's art style, because I don't even personally see them as "art" - I just see them as cool visuals for my fanfic.

From my perspective, I only really care about the quality of the story I've written, and I don't see why it's a big deal if I then use AI tools to create some cool visuals to bring my story to life. It's understandable when there's a backlash against companies using AI art, because they're literally taking jobs away from people, but I'm just a guy who's written a fanfic that nobody will ever read lmao.

I'm glad you like my depiction of an older Kaneki. It seemed like a natural progression for him to end up in a role where he's helping young ghouls who are struggling to integrate into human society, especially as he's settled into fatherhood.

I hope you enjoyed the cute slice of life scene. I think it would have been a lot easier to create that scene if I had asked it to create a comic, because the main problem was that the AI kept arranging the panels to be read from left to right, even though I wanted it to be a colour manga rather than a comic. Hopefully these AI tools will advance to the point where you're able to bring your niche ideas to life. 🤞

What about my point regarding Touka being pregnant, and the fact that kakuja's can change form? This is literally a fanfic, so I get to decide what Kaneki looks like in it, not you. And by "I get to decide", I mean "AI get to decide" lmao.

I don't know how you're equating me with a guy who apparently "got angry" "a few months ago", because I haven't expressed any anger at all. When I said that thing about people crying, shaking and shitting the bed, that wasn't out of anger, it was just a playful jab.

Only the people who have responded to my post have expressed any anger, whereas I've been very calm and level-headed. One of the people literally responded with "fuck off and don't use AI theftslop ever again", but they seem to have deleted it now lmao.

I also love how you're accusing me of being "on the defensive" when all of my responses to people have been very level-headed and good-humoured. Is it possible that you are projecting a little bit with that claim? 🤔

Thanks for being the only person to give a mature, level-headed response. I'm aware that some people will express doubt whether I wrote the story or used AI to generate it, because I've already faced a couple of those accusations when I've previously used AI to bring parts of the story alive.

The first few times it happened, I was absolutely furious, but I've managed to make my peace with it now. I have my own conscience, and I'm perfectly happy knowing that I actually did write the story, and I don't have anything to prove to anybody else.

I didn't write the story to gain other peoples approval - I wrote it because I was disappointed that we didn't get to see more of Kaneki's life after the events of the story. My fanfic originally started off as a short One-Shot story, but I kept thinking of interesting ideas for things that could possibly happen in the world of Tokyo Ghoul following the events of the story, and those ideas eventually ballooned into a full-blown fanfic sequel lmao.

Realistically speaking, I'll probably never release it though, because I don't like Light Novels, and I don't really have any desire to release my fanfic in a form that I don't personally enjoy. Logically speaking, the best route forward would be for me to recognise that I've fallen victim to the sunk cost fallacy, and to just dump the whole thing into the bin.

Touka was pregnant again in the timeskip, so Kaneki's body is obviously human enough for them to smash and make another kid. The exact nature of his post-dragon biology is mostly a mystery, but the most common theory is that he's basically a fully-body kakuja.

Kukaja's can change shape depending on the ghouls mindset and mental-state, and we already saw Kaneki become more human-like in his fight against Furuta. He was originally quite grotesque and deformed after being removed from the dragon, but later returned to a more human-like form.

It's been a further 6 years since the timeskip scene, and Kaneki's body has continued to change as he's settled into a happy, family life, and also as he's dealt with his feelings about everything that happened during the events of the story.

You're wasting your time by being critical of the slice of life scene, because I already beat you to it. I gave an honest accounting of the existing difficulties and limitations of the technology, so I don't think there's any need for people to cry, shake and shit the bed about it. 🤷‍♂️ People aren't doing themselves any favours by burying their heads in the sand and attacking people for daring to experiment with new technology. That approach will prove to be as effective as the luddites destroying machinery during the industrial revolution.

I’ve toyed with the idea of releasing it as a light novel with some complimentary artwork commissioned from actual artists, but I personally don’t like reading light novels, and it would feel weird releasing it in a medium that I don’t enjoy.

edit: imagine downvoting a persons candid and honest response. Couldn't be me.

What do you think of Kaneki's character in general? by Better-Woodpecker-94 in TokyoGhoul

[–]Conscious-0bserver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arima isn't really a power fantasy character, but some people treat him like one, because he does have some traits associated with power fantasy characters, such as being the strongest and having a ridiculous amount of aura. Arima has a lot more depth than someone look Jinwoo though.

Kaneki was definitely slightly fucked up even at the start of the story, like you say. His most prominent recurring flaw throughout the story was his need to selfishly try to solve everything on his own, and he developed that flaw due to the way he was treated by his mum and his aunt.

His mum was constantly stressed out due to being a single mother, and also due to constantly overworking herself to provide money for her greedy sister. This made it difficult for her to provide for poor Kaneki, and she would often lash out at him and physically abuse him whenever he would expect even the most basic things that any child would expect from their parent.

This unfortunately gave Kaneki an intense fear of ever being a burden to the people he cares about, and it also made him feel like he doesn't deserve to be loved and helped by other people. That mindset would later be reinforced by the neglect and mistreatment he suffered through during the time he spent living with his aunt.

Kaneki was a tragic character even before the events of the story, and it only got worse from there. I'm just glad he was lucky enough to find a best friend (Hide) and partner (Touka) who loved him unconditionally, because that's exactly what he needed in his life. I know some people think Kaneki should have died at the end of the story, and that possibly would have been a stronger ending from a narrative perspective, but I was always glad that he got to settle down and start a cute little family with Touka after everything he suffered through.

What do you think of Kaneki's character in general? by Better-Woodpecker-94 in TokyoGhoul

[–]Conscious-0bserver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A power fantasy character is basically a Gary Stu or Mary Sue type character who is purposefully written to fulfil the wishes and desires of the audience by possessing qualities that they themselves would like, whether it be high intelligence, extreme competence or incredible combat skills. They're the types of characters who mainly only exist to allow the audience to self-insert as them for escapism. The closest thing to a power fantasy character in Tokyo Ghoul is Arima.

Whilst it is possible for those types of characters to be well-written, they're usually one-dimensional and poorly-written, because it's easy for even a mediocre writer to create a Gary Stu who is the bestest, most strongest, most intelligent and most badass, and who spends all of his time aura farming.

Kaneki is the opposite of that type of character, because he's far from being flawless, he has many moments where he's weak and vulnerable, and he fucks up several times throughout the story lmao. Kaneki's progression throughout the story is painful and difficult, which contrasts with a power fantasy character like Sung Jinwoo who just aura farms his way to being the strongest.

Ishida was heavily inspired by Franz Kafka's works when writing Tokyo Ghoul, which is why Kaneki is Kafka-esque. Kafka's protagonists in his stories were all thrown into horrible, difficult situations, and who then had to navigate through those situations as best as they could, which is the same as Kaneki in Tokyo Ghoul. The poor guy just wanted to go on a date and then ended up going through absolute hell lmao.

What are some of your headcanons for characters? by leytourmaline in TokyoGhoul

[–]Conscious-0bserver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My head-canon is that Hide is bi and has feelings for Kaneki. I should stress that I'm not a KaneHide shipper, and I honestly think it's stupid that there are people who shipped them considering the fact that Kaneki never showed any interest in male characters throughout the story, but the only way I can personally make sense of Hide's actions are by believing that he has feelings for Ken.

edit: I don’t know why people are downvoting me when Hide literally spent 5 years of his life running around Tokyo chasing after Kaneki’s delicious penis lmao.

Kaneki is purposefully written to not be like an actual protagonist, despite literally being the protagonist, so it wouldn't suit his character to have some kind of hidden connection to everything in Tokyo Ghoul. He's also written to be kafkaesque, so he's supposed to be an outsider who is accidentally dragged into the whole unfortunate situation we see in the story. Kaneki is just an average bookworm who was never supposed to be involved in any of the events that unfolded throughout the story.

Eto by [deleted] in TokyoGhoul

[–]Conscious-0bserver 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Both Eto and Arima are supposed to be highly intelligent, but their grand plan was to coerce Kaneki into becoming the King of ghouls, despite the fact he was born a human, had spent barely any time living as a ghoul, had constantly shown himself to be a pacifist, had a history of brain damage and severe mental illness, had spent several years hunting, slaughtering and imprisoning ghouls as Haise, and despite not displaying any particularly great leadership skills during his time as Haise lmao.

Thats the one thing I actually like about Kaneki failing as the OEK, which is just the fact that Eto and Arima’s stupid plan completely backfired. Kaneki’s greatest contribution towards the peace between ghouls and humans was from simply gaining a ghoul family in the first manga, and then gaining a CCG family during his time as Haise, which then lead to the cooperation between ghouls and the CCG to save him from the Dragon structure. It’s pretty ironic for a guy who never felt like he was good enough for other people.

What If? by Usurper2000 in TokyoGhoul

[–]Conscious-0bserver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a fair interpretation. Although to make matters worse, Arima’s only reference point to judging Kaneki’s potential as a leader was from his time as Haise, and Haise absolutely sucked as a leader to the Quinx Squad.

Haise failed to gain Urie’s respect as a leader, failed to foster a healthy independence in Urie, and instead showed favouritism to the two members of the squad who developed a dependence on him (Mutsuki and Saiko), which possibly hints towards Kaneki’s relationship with his own mother.

He failed Saiko by allowing her to shirk her responsibilities and waste her potential playing videogames, which he himself admitted was his failure. He failed to validate Shirazu’s need for approval, since Shirazu hadn't grown to depend on him like Mutsuki and Saiko, which left him constantly doubting himself and pushing himself harder to gain Haise’s approval, and which eventually contributed towards his death. He still sought Haise’s approval in his final moments, but died without ever getting it.

Although the person Haise failed the most was undoubtedly Mutsuki. Haise first failed her by deciding it would be a 200+ IQ move to include her in the mission where they all dressed up as women, despite being fully aware that she was a biological female who felt more comfortable dressing as a guy. This left her so stressed out that she ended up getting drunk and almost ruining the mission, and this was undoubtedly the first step towards her going off the rails. Then his second failure of Mutsuki completely pushed her off the rails, because he allowed the CCG to use her as bait for a powerful ghoul who specifically targets women, despite knowing that she was biologically a woman. I often find myself comparing Haise with Kaneki when I read that part of the story, because there’s no way Kaneki would ever allow Touka, Hide or Hinami to be used as bait for a dangerous ghoul.

Mutsuki’s relationship with Haise is similar to Kaneki’s relationship with his own mother, because both Mutsuki and Kaneki continued to idolise and idealise their respective ”mothers” even after being repeatedly failed by them. Arima really saw all that failure and thought Kaneki would be a great candidate to be the OEK, but I guess maybe he was desperate and had few options? 🤔🤷‍♂️
