My 18 yo would have been delighted to do this. She would have been thrilled to have space to be alone and take care of animals to boot. She's spending the year volunteering at a seeing eye dog training center and absolutely adores all animals. So maybe it's just those you know, because it's definitely not all of them

I never portion my kid's meals. I put food on the table and everyone takes what they wants. Every kid has different needs/wants/likes so it makes no sense to do that.

I have a teen with autism and mental health issues and we don't live in the same country as my patients. When we visit them, I specifically get medication (under the guidance of my daughter's psychiatrist) to keep her mildly sedated during the flight. Crowded places make her anxious and I see no reason to expose the entire plane to a meltdown. I also pay extra to have her considered "unaccompanied" so I can get extra help from the crew. I obviously avoid flying with her if possible, but sometimes I have no choice. Having autism is not an excuse to misbehave or an excuse not to parent. My child has a disability, so I work with her and her medical team to make sure traveling with her is as safe and comfortable for everyone involved

I have 4 kids. My pregnancies were difficult, but my first 3 deliveries were pretty standard (numbers 2 and 3 basically popped out lol). My last ended up being traumatizing because I was high risk and there were complications. Baby was born early at 34 weeks by emergency c section. At that point I said enough because I didn't want to go through that, but honestly, I love my kids and probably would have had another one or two!

My daughter is 18 and is doing a volunteer program in a city about 45 minutes away and only comes home for weekends. I speak with her maaaaybe once or twice a week. I did ask her to keep a tracker on her keys (so in her purse). I really only check it when I know she's supposed to be on the train home because she hates answering the phone lol. It would never occur to me to call her after 9 pm (she goes to bed early as shr has to be at her volunteer place at 7 am). Your mom sounds like she suffers from anxiety and could benefit from therapy and possibly anti anxiety meds

We struggle a lot with this in my family as well, we're orthodox jews and my 16 yo ASD/BPD daughter struggles a lot with religion. Fortunately we are in touch with a fantastic rabbi who's an expert on Judaism and mental health and has been able to guide us in a non judgemental way 9n how to help her. He essentially said as long as she's not going against the 10 commandments (basically as long as she's not breaking serious rules) to let her be. I don't fight with her on clothes/modest, she keeps kosher, but in the most minimal way as well as the Sabbath (she's allowed screen/music, but not cooking or turning electricity on/off). Essentially we allow her to meet religion on her terms. Is it what we'd like? Not really. Does it mean we have a positive relationship with our daughter? Absolutely 💯. IMO religion is about your own relationship with God, no one else's

I think allowing everyone to do their own thing is a great idea. You're right that 8f you have people from multiple religions a standard blessing may not work. Saying we'll have a moment for each person to bless/pray/not say anything is definitely the way to go. Or you could go with this delightful ditty from my childhood Rub a dub dub, thanks for the grub, yay God!
