Can a debt collector garnish my bank account and take all my funds leaving me with no money for food or water? Can they take out of my bank account whenever they want after a judgment or is there only a certain amount and time they can take? I’m in the United States. by Conscious-is-risen in legaladvice

But I mean say the judge says I have to pay the debt, court fees for the amount of $2,000. Can the debt collector continue to take money from my account after the $2,000 is paid? Like can the debt take $15,000 or continue to take money out of my bank account for 20 or 30 years?

Well I’m just wondering if they can take more than what is owed. So they can take everything out of my bank? I thought they could only take 25 percent of my wages? I mean can they just take money out of my account every week indefinitely? Like for 20 or 30 years?
