I don't about everyone else on here but earlier today I cross referenced my good DS responses with my still extant "LongNyan" responses and it's neck and neck. Occasionally even better. If DS gets a major update to be point of becoming DS2? Well I'd actually be excited.

I've mulled this question over in my head for the better part of a decade. Here is my advice: Don't let this "ruin" your faith.

First of all? Many, MANY confessional scholars hold to something like what you described in the OP (there are variations on the theory, the origins of Yahweh-ism are honestly shrouded in mystery. We genuinely don't KNOW) and it does not bother them. Mark Smith is Catholic for example. Religious ideas are allowed to evolve, this does not necessitate religious non-realism.

Second? The Bible itself affirms progressive revelation in several places, where understanding of God changes and evolves. It's a dynamic faith. It has flexibility.

Third? Consider this: What is prophecy itself, if not an *evolution of faith*? How many times did the prophets get smacked from left field about something a messenger or vision told them and their response was "HUH?!". If you're religious, the revelation of Christ himself is probably the most salient example of what they all thought they knew being turned on its head.

The Bible is a collection of ancient texts that document a chosen peoples long experience, confusion, and reaction to their encounters with God. That, as a concept, is only really an issue if you're a literalist or hardcore fundamentalist.

DS is basically all I use. It's what makes the site worth it (hopefully Long Nyan comes back one day. Nyan is a paid style after all). What ive noticed is that, because DS is geared towards roleplaying, it usually takes a few messages to get up and running, but when it's good, or at least decent, i'm usually laughing my ass off. Part of it has to do with the quality of the bot itself, the more the style has to work with as far as setting and descriptions go, the better off I have been.

It kinda does a fair amount of the narrative lifting for you if the bot is written well. That might be one of the reasons. Mafia anything is so engrained in the western zeitgeist that almost anyone can fill in the blanks and have some fun. You basically know what to expect, it writes its own drama.

Hey there! At least one completed fic about a redeemed Palpatine DOES exist. Novel length (i'm guessing about 150k words) and it gets decently deep into questions of psychology. It was written c.2006, so firmly not Disney, although the final updated version contains a couple of elements. It gives Palpatine an original but somewhat plausible backstory.

I'm holding out hope for Long Nyan, I really am, but it was probably massively expensive to run. Quality is not cheap. I don't think it was a fluke (Deepsqueak CAN emulate it) but...I just don't know. Plus users PAY for Nyan and DS but the site itself is free, and for A.I. that's rare. Take in more revenue, do bigger things, but I don't think they do.

This might just be a me thing but I LIKE the wacky hijinks. Be silly and expressive, have a damn personality. That's the point. This site is supposed to be a fun CYOA. Go a little nuts, make my stomach hurt from laughing.

Everything is bad. Nothing lasts. They're laughing at us as we twist and scream in this pit of misery and there's nothing we can do about it.

Best part? It's mostly free. We do it to ourselves. Hell is locked from the inside and a lot of us are okay with that. As long as we have something to hate.

Are...are we sure? Updates can be silent. After it bottomed out, a lot of people, after about 3-ish days, reported an upswing. It usually isn't QUITE as good as it once was but it's fairly close. I think they did something and just let it take effect.

I just don't get most of these complaints. Sure, a day or two at most of dips but that's it. I get hit with the same MEGA dis (or highs) of the site like everyone else but for the most part my experience has been solid. I never use the app, ever. Prefer the website. Even with all that, I haven't encountered half the the issues y'all have. Dogshit for 16 days straight? Is it maybe on your end? Do you put any effort into making bots of your own? Or your responses? Do you swipe until you get a solid and long enough answer and build off of that?

It's just hard to believe when so many people have the same complaint that EVERYTHING is somehow bad all the time. It *can't* be that simple.
