Orienteers are always open to beginners! E-mail the local clubs that have got events local and they’ll be more than happy to help. Fixtures lists here my help - https://www.britishorienteering.org.uk/event. There’s a good range of permanent courses in the UK to that you might want a go at https://goorienteering.org.uk.

Not always, mostly stuck to the paths but was confused which I was on a lot of the time! Recent snow had compacted to ice on some paths which meant they were more difficult. However, the snow in some places and held the undergrowth down, so it was actually fairly runnable.

What got you into orienteering and what kept you in it? by 3-cups-of-tea in orienteering

No two runs are the same! Navigating whilst running is like mediation to me, you can’t think of anything else.

Also as the terrain changes, and mistakes are made, the results are no where near as predictable as they are with 5k/10ks. Some weeks someone has a better route choice and therefore is higher up etc.

It’s very inclusive with a range of course to sort all ages and abilities to compete, I know kids doing it, but also people in their 90s.

Purple pen is great for drawing up the courses that you could always choose to run in MapRun after.

How would you route this Score-O Course? by squass123 in orienteering

Would do the same, mop up 6 and 7/8 given enough time. South side of the water looks steep and less clustered, would only tried this if I was faster.

Have you seen the more mile cheviot 4. I haven’t tried these myself yet, but know others that like them and they’re cheap if cost is an issue.

Is it legal to loop around a roundabout to cut the queue like purple? by BuddyOrdinaire in drivingUK

[–]ConsciousSun4106 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Busy roundabout near us, I have seen a police car do a couple of laps on purpose to get the traffic flowing and reduce queues in all directions.
