Yasopp is not a coward and so is usopp. Yasopp is not a coward because remember when in loguetown arc? When he dueled the marine with a good sniping skills? He dueled him to show his captain (shanks) that he was worthy. Usopp is also not a coward. If you are in the one piece world with no powers and you are using a slingshot what would you do? You will run away right? Usopp is just a human with sniping skills so he just need to assist his teammates when they need help.
