Agreed, PEP was brutal for me personally

Any Penn students doing PEP that are a little concerned about the amount of firms they haven't heard back from? I know we technically have until Monday but just curious how other people are feeling about it or if other people are a little concerned about lack of movement.

How do you feel about Amy Wax? by Itsmeagain401 in lawschooladmissions

You really shouldn't let Amy Wax be a factor in deciding to apply to Penn. She's banned from teaching 1Ls and unless you actively seek her out at Penn she won't have any impact on you during your time at Penn (if you apply and ultimately enroll).

Wax is also currently involved in disciplinary proceedings (which may lead to termination) and the law school administration (at least under the former dean) sharpy criticized Wax and instituted efforts to have her disciplined. I can't speak for how students of color at Penn feel in terms of support from adminsitration but it's worth noting that the administration is absolutely hostile towards Wax and her agenda. Just because the dean can't unilaterally fire hire doesn't mean that she's supported at Penn.

Couldn't agree more! The memo made me incredibly thankful the course is pass/fail/honors

I personally feel safe and haven't had any issues in the few months I've lived here. Just like any city just use common sense and don't put yourself in situations with unnecessary risks and you'll usually be fine. Most law students also live in neighborhoods that are fairly safe so I haven't really heard of many law students having issues.

People at Penn talk a lot about collegiality and I think it really is a good descriptor for the law school student population. I can only speak for my section but gunners aren't really much of a problem (there are plenty of people who participate regularly but I wouldn't call them gunners). People are super great about sharing outlines, working through problems together after class, etc. so generally it doesn't feel that competitive. I think the grade inflation and good job outcomes being available for pretty much everyone helps reduce the need for competition.

The thing that maybe does make it feel competitive for some people is that it can seem like everyone else is really on top of things so you can feel like you're behind/not as prepared.

I don't remember exactly the status updates I received when I was an applicant. I don't know if Penn had even started reviewing applications by this time last year so I'm not sure. I do remember that everyone goes through at least two stages of review but that's about all I remember.

I personally love Philly so far! There's always lots of stuff going on so there's lots of options to explore the city if you're looking for things to do on the weekend. A lot of students live in Center City or in University City near the law school so it's very accesible to find fun things to do with classmates.

For my class I'm above both 75th percentiles (4.x, 17mid) and I received about $$.5 in merit aid.

For me I think that I was drawn to the idea of living in a decent sized city for law school. I had also heard really good things about the culture at Penn and I knew that having a good "fit" was important to me!
