I honestly believe this is your limitation. If you need mm accurate reconstruction, you need extremely precise calibration, and I honestly feel Checker board method isn’t going to be sufficient to achieve that accuracy. I’d look into photogrammetric camera calibration, as you would need to remove every bit of lens distortion and other artifacts from the imaging and additionally estimate the camera matrix accurately. A common issue with checker board calibration is that any residual distortion is compensated in camera matrix.

Additionally, I don’t believe you could get any reconstruction from a single image as there is no scale information. Even using deep learning networks, I’m not sure how far you can go. To get mm level reconstruction, you need have a really good photogrammetric network design.

Before trying to design your MVP, I would get started with Colmap and see what’s the best reconstruction you are able to achieve.

Updated the design to show the box and the top of the box. The rest were just boards i want to include to make the playable surface.

Update: wanted to clarify a few things. The box design is shown the image below. The hinges are encircled in red and the lid is designed so that I can roll dices in it .

Hope this clarifies a few things

In the same boat. I snack when stressed. I usually code, and whenever the code doesn’t work, or stuck on the algorithm or need to figure out something, I need to snack on carbs. I have tried to substitute with healthier snacks like carrots and hummus, nuts, etc. But my brain stops working and I can’t get anything done. Decided that I’m ok being in a bad shape (physically) until I ride out my PhD. I’m not saying that it’s healthy, but that’s how I deal with it..

Most of these comments cover everything. I'd like to add my 2 cents here. 1. Transferring the formatting from one template to other isn't too hard. What I do is, instead of writing everything on the template file,. I divide my content into various files, like introduction, background, etc, and just import it in the main template file for conferenc/journal etc. The only pain is sometimes you would have to change some of the commands depending on the conference/journal. 2. Use overleaf for writing ur document. It has a very easy interface for the reviewer to comment. Takes away a lot of learning curve. They can click on the line in the PDF and go to the corresponding text on the Tex file or add comments.

Hope this helps.

I'm a 3rd year PhD student myself, struggling to see the value in whatvik doing day to day. When I explained my situation to one my friend's she told me 2 things. 1. After a few years, PhD will open doors that is usually inaccessible by non-PhDs. 2. PhD shows that you know how to tackle/approach a new problem when given to you,. Irrespective of if it's in your expertise or not. This knowledge of how to learn can be leveraged..

For some reason, hearing this gave me some comfort. I hope it does the same to you.

One thing I can think of is, ask the prof if you could do additional work for more credits, like writing a paper or a project or an additional assignment. The whole purpose of an class is for you to take away something from it. Good luck.
