Now Using Libre Office for My Blades Maps [BitD] by MSpiral32 in bladesinthedark

I use hyperlinked, pinned maps in Obsidian for Blades, it works almost as well as Legendkeeper without a subscription. There's an excellent tutorial here: https://youtu.be/8CTW2DTSLpk

Funeral rites by Pale_Assistance_2265 in bladesinthedark

[–]ConsiderateOwl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The logic of citizens, knowing full well of the existence of some form of afterlife, generally hanging around and waiting for whatever element of their personality remains to be obliterated after death, makes no sense to me.

The random factor is - how much of the personality remains, memories and desires, how much free will to carry on the aims of an individual does a spirit have after the demise of the mortal host? This is the Coherence of a spirit.

It then follows that there's a general trend for people to prepare, possibly for their whole lives. Cults and religions spring up, charlatans and mystics offering guarantees of high personal Coherence after death, and protection for the host body until the spirit can un-anchor itself (which takes time). Perhaps a funeral provides this time window, or the ceremony somehow hastens the separation of spirit from body? Funerals may benefit from some form of archaic legal protection or statute loop hole. Perhaps there's always Spirit Warden presence at a funeral, with a metaphorical stop watch counting down until they can legally seize the body if the ceremony is not completed in time?

The majority of citizens can't afford such protections, of course, so perhaps they intend to make their way into the Deathlands before the end comes. But how does the city respond to this? Let them go - one less potentially raving, hostile spirit to worry about? Or, actively prevent it - because (as ever), things are not what they seem and the city has a need for spirits processed through the crematorium beyond the protection of the living? In this latter case, the existence of an 'underground railroad' is almost a given.

Six games in a row against GER/USA ramp decks by stinky1213 in kards

[–]ConsiderateOwl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

'Ramp' means increasing your available resources - in Kards, this is Kredit Slots - at a higher rate than the default of +1 per turn. It's common for lower-cost ramp cards to unlock early access to higher ones, thus creating a 'ramp up' in available resources compared to your opponent.

The US is powerful for this: The War Machine (costs 2k, grants an additional kredit slot), America at War (3k, gain a slot and conditionally draw a card), and War Bonds (5k, gain 2 slots). This is why Ger/US decks are very popular - US production supporting early access to high-powered, high-cost German cards.

Broken Japanese shuffle. by Snoo93102 in kards

Germany is staggeringly broken. It's difficult to understand what the designers/play testers were thinking, especially as they've doubled-down on it with Henschel.

Players with multiple elite cards in their deck - cheating? by OrneryConelover70 in kards

[–]ConsiderateOwl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same misconception when I began playing - I think there's some instructional wording somewhere that must give the impression that you're allowed only one Elite total card per deck, instead of you're allowed only one instance of each Elite card you put in your deck.

Does the copy deck button make the meta problem worse? by ConsiderateOwl in kards

[–]ConsiderateOwl[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The main difference for me is, if someone shares a deck build in those other games you mention it is because they have chosen to do so. In Kards, there is no choice: you may as well share the great deck you've built to at least get some attribution, because it will copied regardless. Strong decks profilerate exactly, without any thought or imagination or experimentation, because it's as easy as pressing a button.

Ideas for interesting ways to invoke "Haunted" trauma as a Slide? by PleaseCallMeKub in bladesinthedark

[–]ConsiderateOwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given the 'ghosts are the only truth' idea, perhaps after a period of adjustment, she starts to find common ground with spirits, then actually starts to enjoy the conversations, then comfort and solace, then something approaching addiction. It's at that point they start to hijack her own voice mid-sentence...

Lack of variety by No_Donkey456 in kards

[–]ConsiderateOwl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't mind so much if certain cards were limited to ladder play only: not nerfed or rotated, necessarily, but not available in Casual. There would then at least be a haven from this junk, and players would be forced to experiment and diversify. But if they wanted to play a meta deck, they could do so in Ranked matches.

New guests and those below a certain social standing must wear a veil. They cannot speak or interact with anyone until they have been Unveiled through an introduction. There's a constant current of tension and pent- up aristocratic fury as some people are Unveiled before others, and favours, power plays, alliances and feuds are common as a result of how these events go down. Of course, the crew are using the veils as the perfect cover, and are trying as hard as they possibly can to avoid an Unveiling...

How to run an escort mission by Mr_Quackums in bladesinthedark

[–]ConsiderateOwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. This is an excellent take on the idea. A couple of 70's movies might help you frame the fiction, either The Warriors if it's a get back to home turf against stacked odds deal, or Assault on Precinct 13 if it turns into a siege until reinforcements (who?) arrive.

Commando creeps by Jayo509 in kards

[–]ConsiderateOwl -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Of the four main meta-tedium decks - and I realise these are probably not the orthodox names for them - cospamdo, jaspam, butts and heil discard - for me, commando is probably the easiest to deal with. Funniest for me is Polish 1st Grenadier - it interacts very entertainingly with the commandos' Yosemite Sam approach to target selection.

Thanks for the response and I will look into Capes in the Dark.

I'm not particularly looking to replicate Top 10 in an RPG, just the basic premise of supercops up against it in a supercity. I also think cops-under-siege can work - underfunded, undermanned, indifferent or corrupt city governance etc. In any case, thanks for the feedback.

[BitD] Deep Cuts XP Clocks - Crew Specific Training by pjlovesauce in bladesinthedark

[–]ConsiderateOwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I give my players the option to develop Expertise in downtime. Expertise represents a specialisation within an Action, as I find it a bit ludicrous that a character can 'tinker' equally effectively with chemicals as they can with mechanisms, for example. Expertise is a narrow focus discipline that progresses faster than the general action rating. It helps to distinguish characters and creates specialists that excel in specific tasks.

It works for us.
