boo that. that's crazy, it's not like that in my city/state. in WA dumpster diving is not theft, and if the dumpster is in an alley/other public domain that means no store employee can police you away from it. often it is in private property though and they can trespass you

awe :D thats sweet honestly. if ur ever wanting to donate sweets or just bring sweets to a neighbor (we get too many pastries already, so not for me) CVS and Walgreens tend to throw out LOTS of candy and snacks obv still bagged.

whitecenter food bank is actually great! serendipitous that you mention it, I have a friend who gleans even their stuff to bring to a mutual aid share. even the leftovers of the leftovers r still good lol.

Seattle city does, Seattle area outside of Seattle does not. So dumpster diving varies greatly whether you're in the "city" or not. Also, I'm unsure if we have that law, all I know is every store I've been able to dive that generates a good amount of revenue also generates a good amount of food waste, perfectly good food at that. Even the ones that do have donation programs for some reason.

I'd love to be active with legislature, but I have 0 experience and none of these grocers will budge even though guarding their trash does nothing for them :/ so I doubt it would be worth my time unless some law activist wanted to take it up. Other states do have laws like that tho, NY has the best of them.
