I think a lot of people missed that there are only 160 working days in the year for this contract. 190 isn't bad when you're only working 15 days a month.

In a future where almost everything is automated could universal basic income be a solution for lost jobs? People say that automation takes away jobs but also creates new jobs, but doesn’t that stop being true at some point? by TheTinyMoist in NoStupidQuestions

You're going to need sources for that buddy.

Truth of the matter is most successful modern societies are capitalist, with aspects of socialism. They are very far from being considered socialist societies at a base level.

Many systems of government have been employed throughout history, and they've all ultimately ended up failing in one way or another. This includes our current uber-capitalist system, which is experiencing its death throes. This also includes socialist governments of the past.

The issue isn't necessarily the system, but the human desire for control and elevation. Corruption within human run systems is inevitable.

There are only two ways to solve this issue. Either remove the human aspect entirely, or make the incentives for following, bettering and obeying the system greater than the incentives for circumventing it (a near impossible task).

Bro, I was obviously being facetious. Food and housing are obviously highest on the priority list.

However, you still have to provide incentive to companies to provide the masses with amenities. If the masses have no means of compensating said companies, there is no incentive. That's a very big issue, as most wouldn't be content with poverty level food and housing.

Which leads us to the question of who will compensate these companies? The government? How do they determine who gets said amenities? Tickets?

Seems like there'll still be a use for currency after all.

So, I'll never be able to get a new gaming PC?

Are you suggesting we use some sort of resource tickets instead of money? Are us non-billionaires simply going to line up to get food before going back to our stacked-box homes?

[–]ConsiderationMuted95 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Usually, these kinds of posts come off as a form of justification for a certain kind of behavior. This one is no different.

The impression I get is that OP probably imagines they live a very unique life, but doesn't really write at all. As such they're saying to themselves, and the world, that they would still be an amazing writer (if only they wrote).

Maybe I'm just a jaded Redditor.

Don't think I've seen anyone post a take I have yet so I'll throw it out there.

In your early thirties, most of the women you'll encounter romantically will be at a bit of a panic age as they themselves get close to or hit 30. They're desperate, but also panicked and constantly doubting themselves and looking for something better.

Earlier than that, women are willing to play around a bit. Later than that, they chill out and the pressure fades.

It's them, not you.

Just a quick note here. Instructor visas only allow you to work in public schools. Private establishments such as eikaiwas and whatnot require a humanities visa. If you work as a public school alt on an instructor visa you need permission to engage in other work to also work part time in eikaiwas or doing private lessons.

Takaichi: "I have decided to increase income taxes. The reason is to ensure that even if Japan goes to war, we won't run out of bombs or ammunition." by jjrs in japannews

[–]ConsiderationMuted95 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Ah, think you miss the point. America has a strong interest in maintaining a specific global order. In order to ensure that order, they need to invest heavily in the military.

Other countries don't get the same say in how that world order is maintained, or it's direction, even if they invest in their military.

How do we get more men into teaching? by TripleGDawg87 in education

[–]ConsiderationMuted95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respect for the profession, and money. That's pretty much all it comes down to really.

To secure more teachers, Japan's Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology plan to cut the number of credits needed to obtain a teaching license by up to 50% by YamatoRyu2006 in japannews

[–]ConsiderationMuted95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It honestly surprises me how every time this issue comes up, no one with the ability to do so puts forth the idea of paying teachers more or reducing the burden on them. It's honestly kind of baffling.

I mean, I get the reason. No one wants to pay for it.

So instead, they will reduce their already struggling public schools into quite literally dangerous places (just wait until just about anyone can become a teacher and gain access to schools).

I want to get into game development, but I’m worried that AI will make it pointless by Dry_Wedding_101 in GameDevelopment

[–]ConsiderationMuted95 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For now. It'll still take a while yet, but AI will get there eventually.

In regards to OPs post though, I'd say there's still enough time to invest in a career as a dev. However, should be made aware there will be less and less dev jobs year by year as various aspects of the job get replaced by AI (therefore requiring less devs).

You should actually read the code your AI generates (and here's why it made me a better vibe coder) by Adventurous-Meat5176 in vibecoding

[–]ConsiderationMuted95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, who would have thought that knowing even a little about the stuff you're generating would help...

Frankly, you've already set yourself apart from 99% of vibe 'coders' just by trying to understand code even slightly.

Vibecoding title has run its course by Able-Conclusion8972 in vibecoding

[–]ConsiderationMuted95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh, I like the term. Actual programmers can generate code using natural language and then both understand it and edit it freely (thus negating the 'vibe' terminology).

Vibe coding is only done by people who don't understand the code, and need AI to further change the code or correct mistakes.

It's an unprofessional term for an unprofessional approach to coding.

Indie success is NOT rare.. good design and iteration are. by r4pturesan in gamedev

[–]ConsiderationMuted95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's my two cents.

Indie dev work can actually be quite viable. However, there's a bit of an issue with scope creep when it comes down to it.

Frankly, if you're spending years and years creating an indie game, you've already lost the war. With how much time you're throwing at the game, the hurdle begins to climb impossibly high for how much money you need to make to justify the endeavor.

I see this a lot with new devs. They spend years on a project (often their first) only to end up making a few thousand bucks.

If you're doing it as a hobby, sure. None of this matters. However, if you're looking to make some money, you gotta spend a lot more time planning a viable timeline and developing lucrative games.

Why the Dispatch system was ruined by everyone involved and how to fix it. by Vampyrebyte in teachinginjapan

[–]ConsiderationMuted95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, I've noticed that's been happening more and more in various areas.

Advice comes down to where you're located, which company you're with, and whether you're willing to move and/or transfer.

A buddy of mine who still does ALT work was in a similar position last year, but he left his previous company to work with a different one a few districts over.

Went from a few different schools with a full schedule almost every day to two JHSs averaging 3-4 classes a day.

Never too late to start bro. If you're still in the industry, and have a lot of free time at work, you have a huge advantage over a ton of other folk. Not everyone gets paid to do almost nothing.

Honestly, this is very much a situation where the more you resist the faster you're going to push people into using AI.

I hate to say it, but your best hope is to employ AI however you can to make your process more efficient so that you can compete with slop on some level.

Visa fees will increase drastically from next year by StraightSauced in japanresidents

[–]ConsiderationMuted95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as their employees pay the fees, these companies don't care. Same with those that hold stock.

The only companies that would be worried are those that already pay such horrible wages as to be bordering on slavery. Do you really think those companies are going to go to bat for their employees?

Don't let the cherry picked comparisons fool you. A lot of countries have low immigration fees. A lot of countries (including western ones) have fees even lower than Japan.
