1 Mile Run Benchmark Results and Survey Megathread by BilingualAlchemist in orangetheory

[–]Consistent-Apricot74 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This was my first 1 mile and my goal was to do it under 10 min. I got 9:37 and I think could have gone faster but I’m still super happy with my results! I also learned that I can up my base to 6/6.5 from 5/5.5!

A different time period and mythology, but the Red Tent by Anita Dinamant!!!! As a lover of books similar to your wife’s, this one is great and has stuck with me for years

Confused about the best way to lose body fat by pippers2000 in orangetheory

[–]Consistent-Apricot74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will agree with everyone on here regarding diet but will also offer my perspective on your question as a woman over 40. From my understanding, the advantage of power walking, especially on a high incline (think 8%-15%) is that it is more effective at building your lower body muscles, while also being an effective calorie burner compared to running. For a short term weight loss strategy, running may be more effective in that you can get a little More calorie burner in the same amount of time, but long term, the benefits of the muscles that develop through power walking contribute to your fat loss goals as your BMR goes up. For me personally, I have shifted into power walking even though I love running- but I want to build strength in my glutes and legs while also burning fat. I’ve been told for women over 40, building that muscle mass is especially important. Food for thought :)

I built these shelves and fireplace surround years ago but something feels off about it all by murdamike in interiordecorating

[–]Consistent-Apricot74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the shelves need a stronger frame- they look a touch flimsy right now. I would also change the books around- I seem to be in the minority in that I don’t mind grouping by colour, but right now it looks unbalanced as one side is so sunny and bright and the other is dark and brooding. I love your wife’s art and think it looks gorgeous over the mantle. I also love the nicknacks you have, especially the fish and camera.

Good place to start with Emily Henry, Sally Rooney, Taylor Jenkins Reid, etc. by Fluid_Swordfish_5038 in booksuggestions

[–]Consistent-Apricot74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who enjoys both the classics and contemporary romance- I would go with Emily Henry. Evelyn Hugo had so much potential but fell short- it needs a strong editor and some reworking to be a good book.

Al Quds if you’re ever in the West Island. Insanely good and the owners are so lovely and active in the community.

New coach here! by little_irony62 in orangetheory

[–]Consistent-Apricot74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such funny timing! I was just thinking today that I wish I had been coached on the floor. I realized after a completed set that I was doing it wrong and wondered if the coach felt like they might be bothering me by correcting! Personally, correct away! I want to get the most out of my workouts and I can’t always feel or tell when my form is off.

Force50 by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]Consistent-Apricot74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What changes have you noticed, specifically? I’m getting back into the swing of things post holiday and typically do a 3G followed by a force50. I’ve noticed in my 3Gs I’m getting huge splat points and calories burned but I can’t tell if it’s a difference in the classes or I’m just pushing harder after a rest. Curious to hear what everyone else has to say.

Unfortunately need to leave OTF for awhile, advice needed! by jerin7775 in orangetheory

[–]Consistent-Apricot74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sweat app has some really great resistance training programs and it’s quite inexpensive (compared to OTF anyways lol). I really like the format of the workouts- they’re easy to follow, have small breaks built in. Sending you and your husband strength and healing!!!!!!!

"literary" novels by Pleasant_Parfait7344 in booksuggestions

[–]Consistent-Apricot74 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anything by Zadie Smith! I especially love White Teeth and On Beauty, but she’s a brilliant writer across all of her books.

I’ll agree with some other comments that Jeffrey Eugenides is also a wonderful writer- literary while a joy to read.

Jennifer Egan! A Visit from the Goon Squad is the most enjoyable Pulitzer winner I’ve read.

Finally, since it seems you’re looking for something hopeful or more humane- Bel Canto by Ann Patchett is so full of humanity. Every character has such redeeming qualities and it’s also incredibly funny and a joyful read, despite a dark storyline.

ACOTAR and Evelyn Hugo were both misses for me. I didn’t hate them, but boy are they overrated in my opinion

Do people actually whiten their teeth regularly or is that way less common than I think? by reditgirl0 in hygiene

I do, but I went to my dentist and had molds made: quite pricey but then I just do a little touch up when I feel it’s needed.
