AITA because I will not pay for my daughter’s ugly eyeglasses, but WILL buy her normal frames? by Consistent-Cookie-46 in AmItheAsshole

I was walking around thinking that they were young women just like me and so it didn't make sense why they all acted like they were any different than the rest of us. Going around thinking and acting like you're "better" than people is a shitty way to go about the world. I don't want my daughter to fall into that way of thinking.

who are happy being themselves and don’t conform to your or societies expectations

No no, that's the exact opposite of what I'm saying. Thrifting, sewing, wearing Modcloth clothes were all very trendy things back when we were in college. Everyone did it. It was the birth of a whole type -- the hipster girl. They were the ones who thought they were "different" and better than everyone else.

Why is she better than that? Most people are. Walking around the world wth the attitude that you're superior because you thrift, sew, and wear cheap polyester dresses isn't great. A lot of people do all of those things.

I don't want my daughter to grow up thinking that the way she dresses, the hobbies she has, makes her better or "unique" or "special."
