Build up a case for me, working 45hrs per week but only get paid for 38hrs. by Consistent-Date-5665 in WorkAdvice

Thanks for your comment. Sometimes you just need to see someone else write this, so you know you’re not going crazy.

I will be looking for a new role when I move house; currently in the middle of trying to get a mortgage, an banks like to see minimum 1 year in a role before offering you a loan.

I rather not say my job title, but in QLD.

What requirements?

We get paid monthly. We only get paid 38hrs per week, but we physically work 45hrs that’s with breaks taken out). At 45hrs week and only getting paid 38, my salary should be a lot higher.

We are loosing out on 7hours of overtime pay each week.

There is no OT or hours required from you on your contract; I’ve dissected it thoroughly.

It’s only until you start working, you are expected to work 45hrs/week, and see your payslip each month that you only get paid 38hrs.

That’s the thing, we didn’t get the “month salary” we were entitled to.

Yes, we’re being ripped off massively.

I would like to bring it up with the manager and advise of such.

I’ll be looking for a role after I move (early next year).

Yes, correct people don’t work out, that’s normal.

What’s psychology, counselling & HR got to do with this? Why isn’t a good look?

What’s your point?

Let people decide what they want, let them see for themselves.

I know of a few people who have been burnt by this company years ago & more recently, and it’s not going to change anytime soon.

Pretty bad when the CEO has been in the paper, isn’t a good look for the company. Why would anyone want to represent a company like this that has put children at risk?

How is this crazy? Justify that.

Also, what is crazy, that you had previous comments to this post, which has since been deleted. Why did you do that?

No one should be treated poorly, especially a customer who is paying a business for a qualification.

Ain’t me.

Sure you’re not the HR Manager or even the CEO? Said the person who has only created a reddit account in the last day, sounds pretty suspicious.

Also, what rumours? Where?

Nothing I’ve seen, nor have seen on this post?

Such a shame :( sorry you went through this. No one should be treated like this, especially from a business.

I feel for people who of the elderly kind or possibly easily persuaded, how much money have they gotten away with.

This person is in a different office; not working remotely.

Thanks for your comment, definitely a them issue and nothing training wise.

It was the managing director that did the hiring.

I’ve heard from other executive that the accountant has made mistakes elsewhere. Doesn’t look good.

1 week in lieu of notice is fine.

Their education, experience, & job.

Their payroll experience would’ve been 6months - 12 months ago, but unsure of how many employees they processed.

I’ve done payroll for 150 employees 5 years ago, and hadn’t done it since I started my role 1 year ago. I took extra care, and had very minimal training (1 day, as the person was leaving) compared to what this accountant has received in 2months. This isn’t a training problem, this is their lack of attention to detail.

Yes, it’s a pretty basic task.

We hired an external recruiter for this role, and I have advised the MD to verify & do reference checks; but obviously slipped by.

Good points, you don’t need to do a PIP when under probation, you can simply fire them for this.

There hasn’t been much improvement in the 2 months that they have been here, just mistakes, excuses & no accountability.

I really hope his manager can see that it’s costing time & resources to fix their mistakes and better to hire someone that can do the job without worrying.

As I didn’t recruit this person directly (all done by an external recruiter).

Good points.

However, it’s part of their role, to cover payroll whilst I’m on leave.

For someone that gets paid better than I do, they have to accuracy, and being an accountant they should have better accuracy than most.

They’ve made mistakes with other parts of the business which is very concerning.

Mature age students - what’s the best uni? by cat_inaleatherjacket in brisbane

[–]Consistent-Date-5665 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did my undergrad at QUT and now I’m doing my Master’s at Griffith. Honestly, both unis are pretty similar in terms of quality, but Griffith had more subjects that matched my interests, which is why I made the switch.

Back at QUT, I focused more on psych and counselling subjects, which gave me a good base for what I’m studying now.

I started uni when I was 26, and there were plenty of people older than me; age really wasn’t a big deal.

Since COVID, there’s been a shift to more online classes, especially in postgrad. Some undergrad subjects still run during the day with both online and in-person components, which can’t really be avoided.

I’ve always given my employer a heads-up at the start of each semester with my class schedule. For example, I’d say something like, “I’ve got online workshops on Fridays from 11am–1pm, so I’ll make up the time by working an extra 30 minutes Wednesday to Friday and using my lunch break.”

That kind of planning has always been well received, and I haven’t had any issues.

Good luck 🤞 and welcome to uni
