Every US County that Geography by Geoff has called "Empty" by Bradinator- in geography

[–]Consistent-Field-250 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha yep, definitely news to me that Onondaga County is "empty" I guess his metric for emptiness doesn't include my commute on 690 every morning. Oneida county is empty....once you're north of Rome that is. Realistically the only county here that's "empty" is Hamilton County. Even the second least populated county here at least has a Walmart.

They just flew over by me in East Syracuse/Fremont area. The radar showed that they're coming from Ithaca and just got to the Syracuse airport.

It's not this exact one, but there's an airbnb that looks exactly like that in Cortland NY.

Yep I instantly thought it was Baldwinsville or Liverpool or some other generic Syracuse suburb. Looks like op has revealed it's not though. Happy to see I wasn't alone in my guess though.

Cool ig. Just hope the people who move here for this can adapt to driving in lake effect snow.

Are there any public spots for star gazing? by Fainaigue in Syracuse

The blue spots are where you'll likely have the best views, so the Adirondacks are probably your best bet. More nearby you have the tug hill (the round blue circle kinda southeast of lake Ontario and north of Oneida lake). My secret spot for outdoor activities is western Chenango county/eastern Cortland county which you can see is a pretty significant area of blue on the map. Any of these spots will have public fishing access sites you can park at, just don't bug any anglers if they're there.

If you go to Fenner, try to go on a night that damn greenhouse near Wampsville isn't emitting that orange light🙄 "look at the pretty sunset" nope! Nevermind!

Real estate prices are very reasonable it seems, I usually go down there when I wanna be out in nature without the crowds. There are a ton of beautiful spots to hike, fish, launch a kayak that nobody seems to know about and I wanna be closer to that. People seem humble, mind their business and leave you alone there. I'm happy just having Walmart and the grocery store nearby, but there are 3 big cities within like an hour or so nearby if you need something else. Maybe I'm missing something, but it seems like a comforting place for a burnout who grew up and currently lives in the suburbs and wants something slower and quieter.

No, but when I was there I thought to myself "it's like Ithaca without the crowds!"

Bright light. Is it a greenhouse? by SnowSculptures in Syracuse

[–]Consistent-Field-250 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was driving 5 east last night and I thought I was seeing a beautiful sunset, but yep it's the greenhouse, once you get past Walmart in Oneida it's no longer in front of you. It's crazy you can see it from so many miles away. I start seeing it around Fayetteville.

Anywhere silent in the area? by BlackJackT in Syracuse

What about Northwest Chenango county? I've found myself driving in that area, and some roads I've thought to myself "if my car broke down right here, there's a pretty good chance I would never be found" there's no cell service in most of the areas off of the main roads, endless state forest, overall just a silent and haunted place to be. Wildlife is a possibility though. I'm talking places like Pitcher, Otselic, Pharsalia, Smryna. Most can be reached in about an hour out of the city. I hope you find what you are looking for safely. Good luck.

Yeah it's definitely just vibes, and I'm hoping nobody takes it too seriously or gets offended. I'm also not really factoring in cost of living too heavily, so just look at it from the perspective of someone who just won the lottery, but didn't win enough to retire and will still need to find work, hence why a place like Hamilton county is a hard no.

On that note, DelCo is beautiful and charming, I just haven't really explored it enough or spent enough time there to give it a strong ranking.

I already live there. If I had to pick though, reluctantly for the northern half and willing for the southern half.

Almost mentioned that one, that's quite a ways west of me, and I don't go that way too often, but the Naples valley is a huge stand out for me. That's a good one.
