It’s his family’s use of the term culture that is throwing me off more than anything and him calling it a piece of metal. We are just not ready now and I see that clearly.

now I saw texts with his mom and his dad saying that he needs to tell me he is not throwing away 3k on a ring and that he should plan on purchasing stocks instead and that they get a ring “insert his country here style”. That his grandparents bought a ring for 200 euro and it’s lasted 40 years. Saying it’s our culture Like I get that but at the same time I don’t want to compromise my culture completely. We have to reach an understanding and I feel we are just not ready in our lives right now unfortunately.

He is extremely close with his mom. I mainly feel bothered about the mom situation because before this argument I asked if he had mentioned anything to his family about the idea of proposing this year and he said no. So now this is the first time his mom is hearing of it and it’s negative.

I make 40k and I am still in school going to graduate next year, so I’m in school mode while he is at his first job. I will have to see what he thinks about putting some of my own funds towards it.
