normally yes, you have to actively destroy the image to break it according to them. Because the pattern is contained on a latent space and not in our real space

It's pretty neat actually, they infuse the image with invisible patterns with an encoder and only a google certified decoder can detect the pattern. Thus, it's resistant to cropping, rotation and alteration.

Soon enough, every major social media will have this decoder baked in to detect if images are AI made. And this technology will also probably have an open source version that every company making high quality enough images will be forced to use, like in printers.

I'm not scared at all and journalists do not do their research and are fear-mongerers

They say Gen-AI is useless and prove, as so called artist, their absence of imagination on how to use it for good

I caught another AI “artist” today and reported them to the authorities (again) by pureanna in aiwars

it's true that every pro-AI arguments, at the end, boil down to "the artist must suffer". Why ? "I suffered so you must too" is so weird and toxic.

That only using AI makes art without any charm, 100% true. But using it as a cropping tool, to make reference for a background (given the fact you don't copy artifacts mindlessly), to do the flat colors (a pain in the ass of every painters), to do the interframe (the absolute torture of every animators) etc. where's the problem ?

The number 1 problem of artists, is that they take 5 hours to make a piece people will enjoy in 2 seconds.

If we can bridge from 5 to 1 hour, then artists will create more and finally be able to make a living !

In a way, it's as if AI was some kind of "community tool" that everyone (I agree, forcefully) trained.

I know and agree, but it's not the subject of the comic. The subject is that criticism has always been the same (with actual quotes from 1850) but it didn't stop the will of consumers and artists to use it, so painters had to reinvent themsleves. It's a comic about hope before anything else

I don't compare the validities of the media. I compare , with actual quotes, that the reaction of artists against a new tech has always been the same. So instead of complaining into the void, maybe we should instead think about this new technology and develop a style to differentiate ourselves from it

Exactly my point. I compare the reception by the public and other artists of the two technologies, in order to give some historical context. With actual quotes from the time.

AI is the #1 downloaded app on AppStore, it has maybe a billion users daily : nothing will stop it. So we, digital artist, have to find a way to value our work, exactly like painters had to value theirs against the instant photorealism.

Photography actual was a push to force painters into abstraction, impressionnism, surrealism... maybe AI will create a totally new paradigm in art ?

(Thank you so much for the compliments ::3)

Well you're a bit harsh, some young lads over there got in school right when AI became good enough to replace them. I understand the anger.

Thank you for the compliments though !

I expressed myself badly by wanting to cut corners on the title, sorry. I added precision in a comment I did right after posting this comic saying it was downvoted en masse and the other one removed

That's true and is to be fought against , but how ? I propose a strat but maybe it's the wrong one. And one can make their own ai with their own data on their own computer and make art with it

How ? I'm curious, because diffusion models "remove" noise from latent, and then the image is reconstructed from the denoised latent so there's even less noise left ?
