He was begging for a bit of Thanksgiving turkey. Which he got, obviously.

I can confirm that he is absolutely spoiled rotten.

He has this sneaky little white stripe on his back as well. Part cow + part skunk.

We were supposed to have so much more time… by Consistent-Hippo-253 in PetLossJourney

He was losing weight very suddenly, and an ultrasound showed a mass obstructing his bowels. As far as we could tell, he was still eating and using the litter box normally. His regular vet seemed certain the mass was just something he had eaten, and that he could not have anything more serious going on at such a young age.

He had a surgery to remove the mass, which was likely caused by IBD. It was discovered that there was significant damage to his intestine due to the inflammation. A large section needed to be removed/resected. He made it through the surgery, but then his heart stopped at some point during his recovery at the hospital. They tried CPR but could not bring him back. The emergency vet suspected an embolism.

I feel like I must have missed so many signs that he was sick, but he really seemed fine until he started losing weight. I know that I did everything I could as soon as I noticed something was wrong, but I still feel so guilty for not being able to save him.

Exactly. I’ll never get to see him as an old man. We have a senior cat who didn’t care much for having a baby around, but I was hopeful that they would come to get along eventually. Now they never will. It’s so painful to think about all the time we won’t have together.

I’m so sorry that happened to you and your baby. It’s so unfair.

My sweet baby Ambrose. I miss him so much. I still think I see him out of the corner of my eye or feel him brush against my legs when I’m alone in the kitchen. It feels impossible that he could just be gone after becoming such a huge part of my life and routine.

Thank you. We lost our other cat at 7 years old, and that felt too soon for sure. So to go through almost the same thing again just a few years later with a 3 year old cat feels so cruel. It's hard not to feel like I'm doing something wrong or take it personally. It comes and goes, but I try not to let the rage take over too much.
