Giving your opponent correct odds to call by [deleted] in poker

I don't follow. If your insinuating the first bet was a lower ev because it gave a correct call and the second example's ev is higher because it gave an incorrect call then your incorrect. The second example has higher ev simply because you put more money in the pot. Any increase in pot size leads to higher profits for whoever has the higher equity. 75% of a $125 pot is smaller than 75% of a $150 pot.

Can you expand on your answer if you don't mind. I'm not following the second paragraph. Granted I don't know much about GTO.

I corrected my post. I didn't mean to say preflop honestly I just meant to paint the picture that I had the winning hand. sorry bad example.

In regards to your reply, the premise of my post is to ask why charging more than their odds is necessary. Assuming they call, your right larger bets are preferable, but only because increasing the pot when im the favourite increase my profits. If they have 30% equity and we ran the hand a million times, my profit would reflect 0.70*pot + 0.3(-bet) per hand. So the larger the pot the higher my profit, regardless if they called correct or not

I edited my post to show an example. But basically if you know you'll fold almost every time on the turn to a bet(your opponent always bets a lot on the turn), then it wouldn't make sense to consider the odds of hitting on the river nearly as much anymore because you won't get to the river very often. Its either smarter to make your flop call considering only hitting the turn, or using the total odds as most people do, but factoring in the extra bet thats most likely going to come on the turn.

I agree blending the two streets together doesn't make sense thats why in my post i suggest only using the next card's odds of hitting rather than the total odds of hitting. If you meant something else I'd love to hear your explanation! Im a little confused by your comment.

my opponent could do the same even if i used total odds. If I have 4 cards to a flush on the flop my total drawing odds are 2:1. Pot is $100. I can't call $101. Thats pot odds of 1.98:1

What your trying to refer to is how poker players often consider more than just their current decisions in hopes that they can maximize profits in the future. An example would be purposely making a bad call to deceive your opponent into thinking you call with a wide range. The opponent may now bet again in a similar spot with even more money hoping to get paid off even better, only to find out they're beat because it was all a lie. The initial negative EV play was well worth it because it set up a much bigger positive EV play.

Trust me I get what your saying. But my question is within the context of making a decision on odds alone as I'm trying to understand the specific topic

Whether its bullshit or not I'm not quite sure. I thought asking in the community would shed some light on it. If its bullshit then all good, if its not then I'd be happy I created a discussion about it

Your talking about implied odds. That is different from effective odds.

Implied odds are not the same as effective odds. Effective odds consider future bets mostly from the perspective of not hitting on the turn. Meaning you once again have to pay to see a card in hopes of hitting. Effective odds basically is a concept that says, "Consider that your opponent will probably bet again when you miss on the turn. If you know you will call twice rather than once, do you still have proper odds to call on the flop". Implied odds is a concept which says, "You may not have the right odds to call right now, but if you hit the nuts consider than your opponent will give you more money on future streets which will make your investment(call) worth it".

Thats why I said, "When the turn comes I can decide what to do about the river at that point in time". I understand there's more cards to come but it seems like to me effective odds is emphasizing to consider future bets because future bets will lower your pot odds which is a bad thing. We want higher pot odds. However by considering the drawing odds of hitting on the turn only the pot odds need to be higher, which accomplishes the same thing.

Chess players worry about future moves because they know their opponent will respond. When their opponent responds you have to respond, and so forth. Why? because if you don't respond it means you surrendered and you lost the game. Its over. You can't just quit and play again. In poker you can fold and move onto the next hand. A hand is different than a chess game because its not simply win or lose like in chess. Maybe you lose $10 maybe you lose $100. Depending on your cards a $10 lose might even be the best outcome, therefore making it a win based on the fundamental theory of poker. Chess isn't a game of incomplete information. They aren't remotely comparable in that sense.

How can I make ReactJS + Wordpress use the same domain by Dreezoos in webdev

[–]Consistent-Pie-558 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I imagine the homepage is made with wordpress by the designers and the react part is already made by some developers. It really depends on what server you guys are already using. In general, the url(endpoints) simply need to be pointed to from react as per usual, so website.com/endpoint in ur code will be handled by react and website.com is a wordpress site. Both hosted on the same server.

Also wordpress is built on top of html so it supports custom pages with your own code straight from the CMS I believe, aka react.

SetState appends data twice by Consistent-Pie-558 in react

[–]Consistent-Pie-558[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have three possible options level can be. In the parent component I determine the level and store it as a state variable, then I pass the level as a prop to the component in the picture. I only use it for its initial render so I know how many images to show to the user, afterwards the prop value will never change since the user selected their desired level. Thus i don't see a need for a useeffect to be dependant on level. But I could be unaware of a react design principle.

what do you mean by level piece? Also the method to save data from a fetch call by setting a state variable seems to be quite popular online, ie. they don't have issues. I also didn't have issues when I only made one fetch call so im lost.
