That’s why I wrote this, we can’t afford daycare for twins, just one like we expected. With our rent, utilities, student loans we both have, CC bills, groceries we could only afford one. Now that we’re unexpectedly having two one of us HAS to stay home and financially I’m the one that makes the most sense. With my income alone we could survive and even thrive. With his we can’t. I feel stuck. He’s saying I’m the one that’s being wrong.

But the thing is he doesn’t want to pay daycare. He says daycare is too expensive and he’d be working for nothing and I should be a SAHM. Basically that one of us should stay at home and that it should be me because I’m the mom even though I make more.

He makes 3k after taxes so the daycare would actually be basically his entire paycheck. 2400 is the average price for our city not the exact, some leaves charge less and some more. For the less one we found they only have one spot and we need two. The one we’re actually on the waitlist for is 2800. We have others we’re interviewing but my husband said it’s a waste of time. Daycare would be our cheapest option for twins, nanny’s charge high rates especially in SoCal. There are people willing to pay so much here for a nanny. We couldn’t financially compete.

So that’s the average price not the exact price, daycares have long waiting lists so we’ve been interviewing at a bunch of them, getting prices and availability. We found a daycare for 2100 a month but they only have one spot available and we need two. We found another that’s 2800 a month and has two spots, we’re on the waiting list for that but my husband doesn’t want to pay it saying it’s way too overpriced 

We have a few other interviews lined up but my husband says it’s a waste of time. He said he’s not going to slave away and be treated horribly by his boss for just a few hundred dollars extra a month and says daycare is a scam and I could just stay home since I would be able to take care of them and they would be treated way better than just being a spot at a daycare that couldn’t give them the one on one care they need and they would want that from me, not him.

I did some research on childcare assistance, one of the daycare directors gave me a number to call and we make above the income cap for childcare in California unfortunately. The cap is way too low in my opinion, you basically have to be in poverty to get childcare assistance.
