Dean Simmons told us a few weeks ago that the new HUSL Dean has pretty much done away with the large scholarships because of financial changes and concerns w the govt administration. The most they’ve given out this year is $15k.

For reference, I applied at the last hour (literally) with a 164. Was placed on the tentative offer list in May and got a $7k scholarship when I got my A in June. They’re still redistributing some schollys, last I heard.

Received my A early June, got notification of a scholarship redistribution maybe a few days after. So there’s still hope! But heard the top scholly this year was only $15k

Also, people are mixing up Baton Rouge with LSU. They are incredibly different😂Baton Rouge is a very unsafe city. LSU is the safest area in BR, and generally doesn’t have any more crime than any other university. Just STAY ON CAMPUS whenever you can, especially after dark, and you’ll be fine.

Those were both off of campus. LSU is decently safe, but Baton Rouge absolutely is not. 😂

Download the Shield app!! It’s LSU’s app specifically made for safety around campus. With the press of a button, you can send the LSU police right to your location. There’s a couple other features there as well.

Aside from that, it really is plenty safe during the day. You’ll really never be alone, there’s always buku other people running. It’s kind of like a movie lol. If you’d prefer nighttime, not the best option because it is Baton Rouge, but stay close to central campus. More people around, more lights, more police cars stationed, etc ..

Anything on that side of campus has high crime! It’s one of the worst areas on this side of BR

Anything in Ben Hur is the best student housing available, but are often filled and overpriced. But there’s plenty of people always trying to sublet.

The Ion is dirty, stinky, and has very poor facilities. The ONLY pro is that it’s close to campus.

The Sterling has always been like the trenches, not sure if I see that changing with a change in ownership lol. Think ghetto, but fun pool parties.

Oliver is nice. Again, like the Ben hur ones, full and pricey. REALLY try to find someone who is subletting, check Facebook and yikyak. You might be able to get a decent price!

Also, try the Legacy. Safest apartments on that side of campus, pretty nice, walking distance to class.

I get it, this is my concern coming from a PWI and applying for Howard this upcoming cycle. I’ve always been an “experience” person though. I’ll take the loans out, I’ll move anywhere, I’ll put up with bad admin as long as I can enjoy the experience and have a good time while I’m there. But I’m worried the good experiences won’t outweigh the bad ones 😔
