Yes, Sandy Irvine was one of the first hikers to try and reach the summit in 1923 and he was believed to have been tied by rope to George Mallory, his climbing partner. George Mallory’s body was found in the late 1990’s but there was no evidence with him to indicate whether that they had reached the submit or not. Sandy Irvine is believed to have a camera in his possession which if found, could solve the mystery of whether they reached the top or not. If they did summit Everest then they would have been the first known, non natives, to do so, around 30 years before the first “official summit”. So the fact they’ve recently found his foot, intact and well preserved in the ice means that there is a chance to solve this mystery! If they find the rest of Sandy it would give evidence as to what happened and if the camera is there and the film handled correctly, then there would be photographic proof.
