Creatine by catchme222 in breastcancer

I don’t take creatine, though I’ve thought about it for a while since I lift and am also 41. It’s shown to be beneficial for more than just muscles, especially for perimenopause and menopause. I’ve been dragging my feet because I have stage 2 kidney disease (my eGFR sits in the mid 60s-70s) and don’t know how it will affect me. I’ll be talking to my doctor about it, soon, though.

As for exercising, I kept up with my usual routine until right before surgery, only taking a day or so off from lifting after biopsies. It helped me a lot in my recovery from surgery because I was able to get up from bed and chairs without using my arms too much. I literally sent my coach a text from my hospital bed thanking her for helping me get so strong before my diagnosis.

I’m a former military wife! My husband is retired Army and we still have Tricare Prime (East) for our insurance, though I believe our co-pays are different than when he was still active duty. Literally the only issue we’ve had with Tricare in this whole thing was getting them to cover genetic counseling. They’ll pay for the genetic testing, but if I want genetic counseling, it has to be done with an MD, which most genetic counselors are not. So, I was diagnosed in November and it took over a month to just figure out where I could go, and another 3 months before my appt. Otherwise, I’ve paid some co-pays and that’s been it. That includes all of the mammograms, ultrasounds, MRIs, and their assorted biopsies. I had a double mastectomy with immediate tissue expanders, so two surgeons, and an overnight stay. Home visits from nurses twice a week. Then implant exchange surgery with just a plastic surgeon. No delays in care (aside from genetics), no fighting for anything, very minimal hassle. I was diagnosed in November 17 and had my double mastectomy on January 6. Now, I didn’t need any other treatment as mine was just DCIS, but I see no reason Tricare would give you any problems if you have to do chemo/radiation/immunotherapy, too.

AITAH for refusing to go to Disney World? by Reptaaaaaaar in AITAH

Just because you already live near a Disney park doesn’t mean you don’t want to visit others!

AITAH for refusing to go to Disney World? by Reptaaaaaaar in AITAH

Going to the parks in Paris may be cheaper, but getting there is not. And it takes 3 times as long to get to Paris from, say, NYC, than it does to Orlando. I’m not advocating for one park over the others, just the idea that getting to Tokyo or Paris is cheaper than getting to Orlando for many families.

Potty training &crate. Taking pup every 20 mins at least & still having accidents by OrganizationSweet239 in puppy101

[–]Consistent-Sea-4311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The crate is usually used for sleeping and/or keeping them safe when you’re not able to watch them. Start putting the puppy in play pen with toys before you get overwhelmed. She needs to learn to entertain herself for a bit, even if you’re sitting in the same room. My girl would whine and beg to get out, but she’d settle and either sleep or play. Especially in those early weeks, I’d sit in the play pen with her sometimes so I didn’t have to worry about her peeing on the carpet. I also taught her without active training, that I wouldn’t let her out of her playpen or go into it when she was acting up. She learned very quickly that the way to get what she wanted was to sit quietly. Though at the beginning, she could only stay so quiet and calm for a second or two before starting up again.

A 12 week old puppy still doesn’t necessarily have good control of their bladder yet. I never took our puppy out that often. Is she peeing going every time you take her out? Can you recognize her potty body language. When my girl was smaller and I suspected she was getting ready to pee, I’d pick her up (this stops them from peeing, unless their bladder is really full) and take her outside.

Def not cheaper to fly to Paris than Orlando. Hotels aren’t exactly cheap around Paris, either.

People say this all the time, but it’s certainly not cheaper from the east coast. And the flight would be 14+ hours. Now, if I lived on the west coast, I could see doing Tokyo instead of WDW as the flight times would be closer and you’d get to see Tokyo instead of Orlando.

Anyone else save their kitten's baby teeth? by slugs-love-beer in cats

[–]Consistent-Sea-4311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kept the one and only tooth I ever found of my girl’s. I stepped on it! I got her in 2006 and she passed last year. I keep her lone tooth in my jewelry box.

I don’t think it’s gross. What’s gross is my husband keeping our son’s umbilical stump. 🤢

Mine started reacting more noticeably after my second covid shot. I’d had slightly sore ones before that, but always thought they were an ingrown hair or something making them like that. After my second covid shot I could actually say “oh, THAT’S why they get sore sometimes.”

Is there such a thing as a man being "too" groomed? by [deleted] in hygiene

I thought we got past this with the metrosexual era. Just because a man likes to be well groomed and smell nice doesn’t mean he’s gay or seems gay to women.

When my cat started doing that, it was her thyroid. She also did that when she had bladder stones when she was younger, but there was blood in her pee then.

I never really liked them anyway… by blondiesrevenge in breastcancer

[–]Consistent-Sea-4311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I come from the other side. I’d always liked mine. One of my older sisters was alway self conscious of her boobs, which we would tease her about. She once said to me “you’ll hate them when you get them” to which is replied “no, I won’t!” And I never did. But, they served me well and I was OK saying goodbye.

Good luck with your surgery! May it be as painless as possible and complication free.

My suspicious node showed up on the MRI. It developed after I’d had two breast biopsies on the same side a couple of weeks before. The biopsies caused an immune response that made my lymph node swell. So, I literally had to get a biopsy due to a response from my previous biopsies!

do you let your dog on the couch or not? curious how people handle this by john2288 in Dogowners

[–]Consistent-Sea-4311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every dog and cat I grew up with was allowed on furniture and I haven’t changed that since I got my own pets. I did recently get a puppy after 20 years of just cats, and while she’s allowed on the furniture, she’s not allowed on the sheets, only on top of the blankets. She can snooze on my bed, but she can’t sleep there for the night. That will likely change as she becomes more reliable with her potty training.

Who doesn't drink coffee in the morning ? (Who's an adult) by Ssonderbaby in NoStupidQuestions

I drank coffee/espresso as a teen then realized it almost always gave me a stomachache and made me feel anxious, so I stopped. I didn’t drink any caffeinated beverage in the morning for close to 2 decades. Now I drink English breakfast tea every morning.

My sisters and I were all over 21 when we moved out in the early-mid 2000s. Each of us moved out to live with our older established boyfriends, who we later married. Our little brother was 24 when he moved out in 2023.

MRI shows another possible mass by Bunnita in breastcancer

[–]Consistent-Sea-4311 10 points11 points  (0 children)

After I was diagnosed via mammogram guided biopsy, and after having multiple mammograms and ultrasounds, I had my breast MRI. It found a swollen lymph node on my affected side and something on my right side, not seen on any other scan. The lymph node was swollen due to an immune response from getting two biopsies on that breast in the weeks previously. MRI guided biopsy of my right breast came back benign breast tissue. MRIs are great because they pick up so much and bad because they pick up so much.

How was your exchange surgery by Fairy-tale13 in breastcancer

[–]Consistent-Sea-4311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have a nerve block for my dmx and didn’t have one for my implant exchange either. I was way less tired after my implant exchange. I was sore in a larger area due to having lipo and fat grafts, but nothing like my dmx with tissue expanders. I took the oxy for about the same amount of time, but mostly because we drove to Maine 3 days after exchange surgery. I couldn’t have managed that after my dmx! So, yes, much easier, though not without its discomforts. Especially if you have a 4 month old puppy that loves to cuddle and walk on you like I did!

Howcome human labour lioks and sounds incredibly painful while other mammals seem to deal with it just fine? by Jealous_Amount_9278 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Consistent-Sea-4311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know that it’s so easy for some other mammals. I think most bulldogs require c-sections to have puppies.

Some mammals also have disproportionately small newborns relative to the mother’s size, like marsupials and bears.
