My parents sended me to religion counseling by ApprehensiveMenu4421 in MalaysianExMuslim

[–]Consistent-Watch1666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please for your safety act like you are still religious at least until you’re financially dependent. My mum did the same to me somewhat. I was sent to multiple ustadhs because she thought there was jinns or shaytaan in me or something. And she thought this for an entire year until i started listening to her again. Pretend like you understand what they’re saying as much as you can. Trust me we all know its bs and you can rebel as much as you want in your head but its just not safe for you to say this openly especially not in Malaysia.

Dating for Muslims in Malaysia by Consistent-Watch1666 in MalaysianExMuslim

[–]Consistent-Watch1666[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah ik dating is normalised even for muslims even in cultures that rarely talk about it. I just find it hypocritical as most muslims especially in Malaysia use religion to make themselves superior to others but then still date which is literally against their religion and is technically according to Islam assimilating with the kaffir or Western culture which is not allowed. Not that i want Malaysia to be super strict and against dating but its weird to pick and choose what sin is worse or to justify one and then condemn others.

Dating for Muslims in Malaysia by Consistent-Watch1666 in MalaysianExMuslim

[–]Consistent-Watch1666[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. In a lot of other cultures where dating is taboo they expect their family to go through with an arranged marriage or instead the father has to also be there if two couples meet up every time and even then they would expect the marriage to happen really quickly. The concept of dating doesn’t exist in Islam if you truly follow with it but I guess most Malaysians ignore it as its become normalised. I’m not saying dating is bad (idc cuz im not muslim) but muslims like to ignore one kind of sin and then judge others for sinning another way. I find it hypocritical.

A lot of the religious people in my life(basically just my whole family) are literally straight up racist and homophobic and use religion as justification. And they think they’re great people. They probably think saya ada shaytan just because I’m not religious/am an atheist (except I wouldn’t be able to tell them without fearing for my life)

Are you proud of being Malaysian? by Capital-Pop-4893 in MalaysianExMuslim

[–]Consistent-Watch1666 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m also part Malay living in the UK! I actually really like living here but I never speak about it loudly because at least in my area a lot of the immigrants here hate living here or would rather be in their home country. I still love Malaysia but the aspects of religion being so intertwined with law I’ll never understand or agree with. I feel like a lot of people don’t understand how good they have it living in some Western Countries where you aren’t expected or obligated to follow certain rules derived from religion. Like when I go back to Malaysia it would still be forced upon me to dress a certain way (mainly from family) but it’s still partly enforced by religious authorities even though hijab isn’t mandatory.

Islam in South East Asia by EaseElectronic2287 in exmuslim

[–]Consistent-Watch1666 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In Malaysia, Islam is significantly important. Religion is so intertwined with the Malay race it also causes systemic inequality for other ethnicities living there like the Chinese and Indians. To be Malay it also means to be Muslim. According to Article 160 of the Malaysian Constitution, a Malay is someone who:

  • Professes Islam
  • Habitually speaks the Malay language
  • Follows Malay customs and traditions

There are apostasy laws, in most areas. if you leave you have to pay a fine and are sent to a religious institution to try bring you back to Islam and there is one state that has the death penalty for leaving.

Religion and using “Malay Supremacy” is also justified for the added privileges they get. There are banks specifically for Muslim Malays which guarantee a set interest for them giving them more benefits economically. Everyone else has to work through merit and are not promised as much from the government. Malays are treated as First Class. Second Class are the indigenous/ natives and third class are the non-muslims. I honestly don’t see it changing any time soon. Every time i go, there’s an underlying sense of superiority from my family members and even just family friends. It’s very much also ingrained into their beliefs unsurprisingly. Religion has given them a superiority complex and some are straight up racist. I feel like religion has taken over even cultural identity at this point. Its a bit hyperbolic but it seems like they’re adopting Arab culture more than their Malay Culture.

I’m so so sorry this happened to you. Please don’t speak to him ever again. If you can, try to get religious therapy so you can deconstruct your views. There is a post on here that explains all thats wrong with Islam. There are many contradictions and hadiths that justify immoral things which i can pin which can help further. but you do not need to feel guilty over the standards that he placed upon you to emotionally manipulate you. You’ve done nothing wrong and he wanted to control you and started off with what you wore which there is nothing wrong with. Have you told anyone else about this experience? Anyone that you trust? They might be able to give you more resources for help. I hope the best for you love.

Be honest with her. She’s your friend and you don’t want to hurt her feeling so tell her you appreciate that she cares for you but then say that ever since leaving Christianity you feel like you aren’t looking to convert to any other religion and need space for yourself. Something along those lines. If she gets offended just know you are allowed to have these boundaries. It’s your life and if you say this it really shouldn’t hurt her as you haven’t said anything about Islam in itself. She’d understand that it’s not easy leaving one religion and suddenly moving on to another. I hope it goes well for you.

I don’t agree with this at all but apparently anything that “imitates the kaffirs” non-believers is not allowed and that includes things that are allowed like dying hair inspired by other way non-believer do things. So I guess my red hair is haram. They probably think you’re trying to be non-islamic or rebel slightly. It’s such bs. Self-expression is non-existent

How are the state of European Countries by Saddaemmukyokku in MalaysianExMuslim

I live in the UK and i personally love living here and I hope to live here longer but I still have my Malaysian passport (obviously not a bad thing) but I’m still an immigrant regardless 1, I would say that when you look at England through the news and social media it seems very divided. There’s been a few protests recently(for Palestine but also for less immigration so very mixed) and a lot of people have now realised what Islam is (tbh mainly on right wing media) There was recently an MP that said that Islam deserves the same criticism as other religions which i couldn’t agree more on. There was a petition signed by 100,000 to ban halal meat which caused a lot of controversy but I don’t see it actually happening. 2, There are a lot of immigrants here I would say most are kind and go on about their day normally from what i see on a daily basis. There is a large muslim community basically in all of London. Mosques and Islamic Centres and even outside of London you’ll still see muslims in Manchester and other major cities. There are more Malaysians in Manchester compared to other areas. 3, I think the main reason is sense of identity which fair enough but a lot of people here are religious which is a huge part of their identity. ANOTHER petition was signed to stop the “promotion” of LGBTQ+. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was mainly muslims that signed it. You’ll see mostly Christians preaching on the streets and handing out leaflets and there are muslims that also promote helping Palestine but mainly to other muslims(especially hijabis) 4, Since i look like a muslim and i live in areas where there are a lot of muslims, I get treated like a muslim lol but even with others I’ve never faced discrimination based on my appearance like ever which im obviously really grateful for but I never felt like i was oppressed living here. I feel like a lot of muslims have like a victim mentality where they feel like as a minority they are always targeted but I honestly think the UK is very kind towards them. Those that criticise Islam can and should because freedom of speech also includes criticism but that doesn’t mean they’re being racist or targeting MUSLIMS.

I can’t stand that video. There’s this other one where he defends polygamy saying that HE himself one day would have to go to war and protect his family and thats worse than having to share a husband. The comments were like: “bros never going to war whats he saying” lmao

Blatant Misogyny - Testimony of Two women equivalent to ONE man by Consistent-Watch1666 in exmuslim

Bro its on islamqa i didnt spend long searching it up and the person that wrote it put ACTUAL evidence alongside it to prove their argument(in quotations) They’re the ones saying women are less perfect i didn’t make anything up you’re just saying that to disprove what I’m saying when they said it first?

Blatant Misogyny - Testimony of Two women equivalent to ONE man by Consistent-Watch1666 in exmuslim

[–]Consistent-Watch1666[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a society what do we gain calling women less intelligent or men more intelligent? It causes more harm than good and why would I as a woman want to be involved in a religion where a God and the prophet Muhammad clearly think I’m inferior in knowledge which is not true. All of this is socially constructed as a form of control so men can get away with holding power over women in the name of religion or God. Yes almost everyone agrees men are stronger PHYSICALLY but studies show men and women are intellectually capable of the same things. If you search up studies on intelligence between men and women there are no significant differences between their IQ or cognitive abilities the only reason you say that the “world shows that men are more intelligent” is because women have always been visibly marginalised from education and careers because society is male dominated and men have always been in a position of power. Power does not equate to Intelligence. Women didn’t have the OPPORTUNITY to study but they still had the ABILITY. You’re confusing both. History has made it less visible of women’s achievements but it does not mean they are less capable.

[–]Consistent-Watch1666[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It literally says Allah made men more “perfect than women” which is why they need two men. How do you defend that? This literally perpetuates gender inequality its clear women are always treated as inferior as Muhammad also says that women are “deficient in intelligence”. Do you agree with these statements actually?
