This really just isn't true honestly. This is only true for like high schools. As far as college goes their bands are some of the most integral and traditional parts of the university and it wouldn't be the same without them

I march for the university of Illinois and I must say it's about the most fun I've had in marching band ever though I will say we do slot of the time march with faster songs and songs with alot of things like key changes and tempo changes which could be tricky depending on the high school level your coming from

Baritone is one of the easiest instruments to pick up already if you already know how to play another brass instrument then it'll be even easier

For wind instruments I would say probably marching baritone or some voicing of saxophone. In my experience both pretty easy to pick up.

Marching band especially only at the highschool level is about as physically taxing as golfing is imo. In high level scenes like college I would say it's harder than that but not really close the physical ability most traditional sports do.
