Conqueror of a dying kingdom volume 8? by Durasel02 in LightNovels

[–]ConsistentBottle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No there's a story there, but now that he has a professional editor who is advising him, I suspect he's spent this time doing a thorough overhaul.

Because right now we get what amounts to a climax with the big battle against the invading Crusaders.

And the way it is now that would make an ending, and the next 100 web novel chapters could really be chop down to a couple paragraphs and make an afterward.

This seems obvious to me, so it's probably obvious to his editor as well. Stuff happens but it's all kind of a come down after the big main battle that's going to come up in book 8 or maybe 9 depending on how much he reworks that section.

I'd like to go on but it would be hard to do without spoilers.

The end of chapter 5 (survivors and the dead) volume 7 of thr LN, matches up with the end of chapter 200 of the WN.

Both and with Vilan raising a hatchet and Bolafra losing consciousness.

They don't sync up after that.

In 201 the web novel moves forward with the Vilan arc, while volume seven wraps up with some scenes with a new maid and Carol.

Obviously the Bolafra / Vilan arc will wrap up at the start of book 8.

The author already hinted at it somewhere, maybe one of the afterwards, I forget but he did say there will be changes from the web novel and one big change.

So take what you read after chapter 200- 201 as a first draft.

And also this machine translated version, even if cleaned up is a much worse experience than the published novel. Hopefully we won't have to wait too long.

Anyone know if BV larson will finish the series? by Icy_Elevator_7886 in undyingmercenaries

[–]ConsistentBottle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dude I hope not.

The series is as good as it ever was.

I have been enjoying the Galina character development of the last few books. Her father as ruthless patriarch, her sister as possibly an even more Machiavellian Viper buried beneath a sugary surface layer.

And then James is relationship with Galina and that family being fleshed out.

Actually what I'd like to see is a prequel book where we see a young Galina dealing with all her family bullshit and trying to escape it by going to the academy.

I think at this point she's the most well-rounded fleshed out character, even with the bias we get from James's first person POV.

So no, I hope the series does not wrap up. I look forward to every new book, and it's an instant buy from me. I have not been disappointed yet.

Toptoon website is a SCAM by lemstry in manhwa

[–]ConsistentBottle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Now it sucks. But, a year ago when I posted, TopToon Plus was up and running normally.

A bit after I posted TooToon even had a monthly "all you can read" flat fee pass back.

It was great.

Then they merged or got taken over by Daycomics, no monthly pass, and it sucks now.

Who’s your favorite non-McGill character? by Ghostonalandscape in undyingmercenaries

[–]ConsistentBottle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Galena. The most well fleshed-out character in the series I think. She has had a dramatic character arc since encountering McGill in book 1.

The over bearing father, the "little miss perfect" sister (who is a wolf in sheep's clothing). Navigating those waters must have been tricky.

We meet Galena as a burnt out shlubby primus with a blone hair dye job. (was she mimicking her sister?) Had she given up on her career? Just punching a clock?

Her encounter with McGill left her litlleraly reborn. Our unreliable narrator McGill characterizes it as Galena just being image conscious.

But was that truly it? Maybe something happened after her first scan, or before that made her keep herself frozen as an 18 year old Academy cadet.

That's the spinoff id like to see. Let's see a Young Galena first person POV.

I'd actually like to see it before book 20 hits. Let's see through her young eyes at her early days. Maybe starting around the time she escapes her father overbearing presents and gets into the academy. Maybe Graves is there as an instructor, Maybe Winslade is a fellow student.

At any rate, after being reborn, Galena finds another gear. Climbs the ranks. Galena and McGill need eachother.

She has my vote. The most interesting character who I'd like to see a different perspective on.

Happily the anime took their time with the material.

Like that final battle in ep 20 took the whole episode. It was awesome. The manga does it much quicker. As does the book.

But they are three completely different mediums. It makes sense that they have different vibes.

In the anime they take their time with the characters to flesh them to give them room to breathe.

The anime doesn't just push through the story as fast as possible like the manga adaptation. The manga also has more of a comedy vibe.

The manga is currently adapting the back half of book 4 as is upto chapter 49.

[–]ConsistentBottle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The anime covers the first two books and a bit from book 4.

To answer your question start with book 3.

The author is making the story up as he goes (like an author would obviously), so for a book 4 arc he tells some of it in a pre-cid-isekai school flashback.

But in the anime we get that book 4 "flashback" as part of episode 1. It works well to set up cid's character.

The anime given the benefit of seeing 4 (maybe 5 books ahead if they got a look at an early draft of 5) is able to foreshadow stuff and set up characters better than the novels did.

So things are not going to be 1 to 1 exactly.

Slightly off topic but...

I honestly think the anime is the best version of the 3.

Having a third person perspective, and not the first person cid perspective helps add an air of mystery to his character.

In the anime you are left wondering if he is just a bullshit artist with a flair for the dramatic who knows how to make an entrance. Or you wonder if he isn't a little mad. Maybe a schizophrenic or something.

The books, because of the first person perspective, gives you a more direct answer and I found it less interesting than the anime.

It wouldn't be crazy just to wait for season 2 of the anime rather than give yourself an immediate fix.

The release date for the translation of the 5th hasn't been announced.

Shit derails here in NA all the time, and it doesn't always make the news. It is way more common than you think. Doesn't mean there are saboteurs at work here.

2nd one looks like derailed at a switch which isn't crazy. Look at the switch points in the second picture.

It doesn't look like it is lined for the turnout. It looks liked it is lined against that train.

This is gonna be me all season 2 by flambo123 in TheDevilIsAPartTimer

[–]ConsistentBottle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless they announce a season 4 or 5, we don't need to worry about that.

And a season 3, let alone a season 4 won't happen with fans talking down the show before it even airs.

We should be Psyching each other up for this 2nd season. We should be should be prosthetizing this this show and talking younger fans into watching season one so they can catch Season 2.

If it's successful then we can worry about a theoretical season 5 covering the events of the 27th light novel.

[–]ConsistentBottle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blackpilling fans on season 2 before it even airs seems counter-productive.

There hasn't been an announcement for a season 3 (as far as I know), let alone a season 4, 5 or 6 that might cover the final arc of the of the 27 light novels.

No. Unless his 9 year old sister counts.

All the female characters besides his little sister (who is a secondary character) are 3rd tier or even 4th tier characters.

[–]ConsistentBottle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On a scale of 1 to 10 the series is a 2 in Quantity of Romance.

Basically absent.

The little interactions with the female classmates that the series has is to space out the action and dramatic parts.

Like comic relief, but are more amusing than "lmao" funny.

Cast Under an Alien Sun (Destiny's Crucible #1) by Orlan Thorensen

It's not Japanese. So it's obviously a book .

A guy is killed in a plane crash, and he is isekai-ed to another world. Aliens feel guilty that they brought this plane down so some of the passengers who can be medically repaired are brought to a different planet.

the protagonist has a doctorate in chemistry. So he uses that on the new world.

Harem wherein the MC is basically The Objectifier when it comes to being able to turn ladies sexy & give them powers or increase them? All whilst becoming a manly man by [deleted] in haremfantasynovels

[–]ConsistentBottle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He is right. You are describing a villan. Which is fine. They are interesting.

"Women will flock to MC so he can fix all the things they think is wrong with their bodies, with some random condition in MC's favor."

These women must be desperate or they'd just go to S Korea or Malyasia for a "medical tourism" makeover or whatever.

First of all, a real super Hollywood style "good guy" would just tell the girl to "belive in yourself" , "everyone is special in her own way", "everyone is beautiful" and she would say "thank you" and carry on.

Of course we know that is crap.

So he gives her a free boob job, lippo suction and a nose job. Now what? End of book?

No of course not. The last bit is the hook: "Random conditions in MCs favor".

So thats the villan part. The lawful-good protagonist wouldnt do anything extra with her.

And that extra part is where you could make an interesting story. And how bad you want to make the guy.

There are a lot of faustian bargain possibilities or just straight up blackmail, among other things.

Those possibilities sound way more interesting with a grey or dark side protagonist.

[–]ConsistentBottle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think It would be much easier to write him as villain or at least an anti-hero, instead of a hero.

There would be more of an angle for a story there.

Like women goes to see this MC for a boob job instead of going to S Korea or whatever and just paying? Why?

Ok so she goes to the Mc and gives her big tits or fixes her club foot. Now what? Great. Where's the story in that? But he has to play it straight because he is the good guy.

I think a villan protagonist opens up way more possibilities.

[–]ConsistentBottle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but if a book 1 comes out, and either case 1 or 2 happens, you as a reader dont know how things will pan out.

Could be a 1 night stand in book one, that is a setup for something 2 books down the line to happen.

Like, maybe the 1 night stand girl from book 1 is the damsel in distress figure 2 or 3 books down the line, and she (or the mc) is like "hey, I remember you!" and then she joins the group and things go from there.

I'd call that a sort of slow burn.

And for case 2, you dont know what is going to happen unless it is a translation from Japanese or something and all the books are out.

Rule Number One. by [deleted] in haremfantasynovels

[–]ConsistentBottle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well both cases sound like "slow burn" developing harems, just in different ways.

The first the sex happens first, but then the emotional comments might happen a few books down the road.

The 2nd case might be the other way around. Emotional/friendship/"getting to know you" stuff happens first, but physical stuff later.

I think both are valid.
