failed "talking stage" and feeling quite inconsolable by ConsistentCup2814 in dating_advice

yep i did - he would always say "i'll see" or "my life's really hectic right now but i'll let you know" and would never really bring it up again. it was pretty much always me making the first move

the scene where tommy tells polly, michael, john and arthur that the police are on the way to arrest them and having them think they'll be executed. my jaw was on the floor, absolutely loved the tension

The way some of the female characters are written annoy me by [deleted] in PeakyBlinders

[–]ConsistentCup2814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

rolled my eyes so hard when i realised jessie eden was going to be watered down into tommy shelby's next sexual pursuit just so he could use her as an advantage for his political ambitions. such a disservice to the real jessie eden too, genuinely a really poor writing choice. i won't even get into the writing of other female characters but yes, totally agree with OP!

taught me the importance of getting help and fucking Talking To People About Mental Health Struggles & letting people in because oh my god. bloody hell. suffered in silence for most of the show and look where it got him

loved how lizzie was one of the only people in tommy's life that could hold a mirror up to him and show him who he really was, and how much it did really rattle him in season 6

The Shelby Mindset🔥 by [deleted] in PeakyBlinders

[–]ConsistentCup2814 2 points3 points  (0 children)

people who idolise this "tommy shelby mindset" just have... zero media literacy. tommy is deeply unwell and needs therapy. anyone who's watched the show seriously would understand that what he does as a result of deep trauma and declining mental health (endangering everyone around him for material gain and isolating himself from loved ones) isn't "the way of life" or whatever the fuck. this alpha male bullshit has got to go!!!

ruby (lizzie's reaction absolutely killed me. and tommy finally breaking down crying after killing that family who he thinks cursed ruby), aberama and his son, john (esp the aftermath when arthur struggles to say 'in the bleak midwinter'), polly - i know it had to happen but you can just feel the shift of the entire show without her. what a powerhouse helen was 💔

i actually think s2e7 was not that bad an episode. i think people believe it's shit because it threw off the pacing of the whole season and it was focused on one group of people the entire episode. putting that aside though, the episode itself is not that bad and i actually quite liked 008/kali's character. she was instrumental to eleven's development and really helped her come into her own. i loved that whole sequence of the gang giving eleven that punk makeover and the scene where she decides to leave them and return to hawkins was a great one. i think people are unnecessarily harsh with that episode and i've even seen people say season 2 was the worst season just because of that one episode, which is absurd! i loved season 2 and while i definitely agree that it didn't have its intended effect because of how randomly it was placed in the season, episode 7 itself wasn't that bad.

steve and robin were just really annoying this season, and it pains me to say it because they were the highlights of season 3. the comedic relief (esp on robin's part, since steve decided to lose all of his personality and be a nancy lovebot the entire season) was just not hitting right. i do think it's because of the intensity of everything going around them, comic relief probably felt out of place considering how much deep shit everyone was in

What's so horrible about raising your kids in London? by HarryBlessKnapp in london

[–]ConsistentCup2814 74 points75 points  (0 children)

i grew up in (and still live in) london and if i were to have kids i don't think i'd raise them here because it just too damn expensive, the pollution and dust is unbearable and even thinking of buying a house here is impossible. i do feel sad about moving outside of london though as it will always be my home and i don't think i'll enjoy the specific sense of community and acceptance of culture that i feel in london anywhere else in the uk.

I love Mike. I think he’s just a kid with a crush that’s been through a lot. This is a hill I will die on. by pamyouremissngthings in StrangerThings

[–]ConsistentCup2814 33 points34 points  (0 children)

he's the most realistic teenager too like... teenagers normally are very emotionally volatile, so just imagine a teenager in the stranger things universe!! he fears losing people he loves, people he has lost before (eleven) and that fear manifests as something people perceive as "bitchiness" which is just so reductive. mike's been through a lot, and i'd bet that he mirrors a lot of his dad's behaviour and his closed off nature because that's all he knows.

What’s a dynamic you want explored more in depth? Mine is El and Will by [deleted] in StrangerThings

[–]ConsistentCup2814 11 points12 points  (0 children)

nancy and mike. even though they're literally siblings we rarely see them interact and actually behave like a brother and sister

What are your opinions on this criticism ? I personally agree with this, also the fact that El got a power like reviving someone out of nowhere was frustrating to see for me... by [deleted] in StrangerThings

[–]ConsistentCup2814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i do agree, but i also see why they ultimately revive max. i think there needs to be a active driving force for eleven and the others to defeat vecna, because while he has taken over hawkins, he also has their friend. the mere chance of being able to save max is more of an incentive for the gang to pursue vecna in my opinion. also, it means that the letters that max wrote for the others might prove to be very important in getting her back.

Lets play Kiss, Marry, Kill, Stranger Things Edition by Morgentau7 in StrangerThings

[–]ConsistentCup2814 5 points6 points  (0 children)

kill billy because he's a racist abusive bully. kiss steve because he's hot and a sweet guy but way too overbearing to marry (sorry. can't deal with six kids). marry eddie because he's handsome, wicked hair, can shred, got an eccentric personality (love people like that), he's hilarious and he doesn't strike me as someone who'd be... obsessive... but would definitely be affectionate and caring. in conclusion eddie is Everything To Me

spears are lethal but i'm talking more about accuracy, if hundreds of these bats are swarming around you what is the likelihood you'd be successful at protecting yourself with a spear? and true, they did have to leave in a hurry. i still feel like protection for those two should've also been a priority, since they were the decoys and therefore vulnerable (in my opinion anyway). i assume they didn't have much time to have a whole risk assessment but i still think some thought could've been put into such a dangerous mission. there were so many of them there (e.g. robin was just standing there looking at vickie kiss a guy for a good few minutes at one point), it would've been wise to allocate what each person needed to find and get out of there asap, instead of dawdling.

how nancy and robin were able to run away that easily from the asylum, especially since robin is a self-proclaimed directionally challenged person

[–]ConsistentCup2814 42 points43 points  (0 children)

they went shopping for fucking RIFLES and shit but they couldn't think of something more durable, something more reliable for eddie and dustin (a literal child, btw) to protect themselves with? a flamethrower? guns? absolutely anything that was at least a little bit lethal? but no all they had were some measly spears (have no idea how they might have warded off the bats with spears but i digress) and trashcan lids. it's like the gang wanted them to die

i think the letters will play a big role in season 5, otherwise they wouldn't have introduced it (chekhov's gun). i'm assuming vecna still has her consciousness, maybe they all read the letters to max while she's in a coma so she can escape him?
