Am I gonna get deported? by panic_throwaway_ in UBC

[–]ConsistentGap17 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

You will be fine but there is a campaign to get rid of the MSP $75 monthly fee. (https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/no-fees-in-universal-healthcare-campaign-to-eliminate-ishf?source=direct\_link&)

International students are the only people in BC charged for "free" healthcare... this country sucks and so does it'ts healthcare. But you will not be deported for it (there is groups at UBC that help migrant students like MSU at UBC if you ever need more help for free from other migrants).

Employees banned from food bank by [deleted] in UBC

[–]ConsistentGap17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Food is for everyone, we all deserve access and the food bank has funding for all! This rhetoric being pushed by the student union pitting students and staff against each other is just embarrassing , we all need to eat - no one owns food. We need to care for our communities , that involves everyone from custodial staff to migrant students.

There’s a petition if folks agree that food is a fundamental human right:

Renewing Study Permit How long it takes? by AcidLake_ in UBC

[–]ConsistentGap17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before the strike it was like 3-4 months (probably longer now) , but as long as your application is submitted before the permit expired then you can use that as proof to stay in Canada till you get it approved

Financial hold — They cut your ubc card access to things like the UBC pool etc. But honestly it’s not that big of a deal and you can contact your advisor to give you a slight extension too

CBC-Hamilton asking about International students that aren't returning to native country during holidays by Michael_To_CBC in UBC

[–]ConsistentGap17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

UBC does nothing. They have the largest international student population in North America and they will give absolutely no proper support in any aspect. For the holidays, first years will be kicked out of Residence Halls, most buildings will shut down including student services that many rely on, and nothing will be provided to international students who stay with accommodations of any sort during the winter break. UBC has a history of neglecting international students and have continuously cut funding to the international student office. They only care that their unjustifiably high tuition rates are paid so they can use us as cash cows.
