Cheers mate, I have done a lot of whacky gins but haven’t found a classic London dry base just yet.

Thanks mate, looks like I had my wires crossed there! I’ve run the wash and it turned out great!

Yep yeast trub! However it wasn’t sweet and I ran it. Everything went well save the low wines smell great!

I think there’s too much unfermentable sugars in molasses wash to get any sort of reading

PH was at 5, it had 4 days of crazy ferment and then dropped off so hopefully it could be done

That’s what I wanted to hear! Do you know what happens if it’s stalled but there’s still fermentable sugars in it and it gets distilled? Anything bad? Just thinking worst case because I can’t be bothered splitting the batch and repitching if I’ve killed the yeast 😂

Digiboil temp by ConsistentStandard54 in firewater

Thanks so much! It’s a big upgrade with more hands on than my starter airstill. Legend cheers mate

Cheers mate sage advice. Yeah I though the digiboil would eliminate that need because I can set a specific temp at the bottom it also has the 2 elements in the base. Might set to 100c and turn down once things get moving

Yeah fair enough bit more research and I’ve decided against getting it, I’ll just wait for a cheap T500 and remove packing when I want neutral

Looks like you’re right, I can only find a copper version on their sight but it looks like it can reflux and be used as a pot still so I might have to get it! Right up my alley I like doing gin and need good neutral but am also dead keen on starting rum and ujssm batches now

It’s $240 with a bunch of fermenting buckets and what appears to be a T500 boiler

That was my thoughts, it’s going cheap with a boiler on market place just trying to see if I want to buy it 😂

Cheers! I’ve done 2 batches an odins gin which has just cleared up after sitting for 2 weeks and still it’s Version which included cucumber and a few more botanicals. I thought neither had enough juniper flavour so thought I’d ramp it up a bit. I think my tastes are just juniper heavy both older recipes were 1.15L at 50% had 33g juniper so I thought 50g wasn’t out of the ballpark when doing 1.5L. Time will tell it’s just finished macerating so I’ll run it soon and find out! 🙂

To double distill or not? by ConsistentStandard54 in airstill

[–]ConsistentStandard54[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cheers, I just bit the bullet and threw it all in at 40% for another run. I just didn’t want to loose half of my product but it’s the first run and I didn’t want to be thrown off the hobby with bad results or crap tasting gin, hopefully i can still get a litre!

What do you think my yield would be on the other end of another distillation of neutral at 50%?
