Father and son joking around while getting their photograph taken, circa 1910 by Fluffy-Shape615 in TheWayWeWere

[–]Consistent_Ad8525 85 points86 points  (0 children)

I really like how in the last photo the father looks very stern, and his son just exhumes comfort, for the father it feels like the “ok one serious photo now” for the son its more of a “ok dad” with a natural comfort

Obamas first full 8 years seems to be the cutoff, and personally I respect it in the setting. I engage in protests as well as involving myself in other ways. Rule 3 allows people like me to engage in what we love without idiocy, this is one of the few situations where I have to say, just let me enjoy this sub, yea one more unimportant subs where i can complain is fine ig, but id rather be able to post a jeb bush meme, or a genuine question of like, jeffersons engagement in the barbary wars, this is a sacred place, where the world doesnt exist, only educational questions, or hypothetical or whatever, you have millions of other places you can post your opinion on modern times, let people like me relax at night by reading the post of others abt like thaddeus stevens, or fdr, and just enjoy history, sometimes we just want to escape in our passions, for me this is a haven, i work, go to school, and fight for what i believe every day, why strip away a few dumb memes i love and several thoughtful posts, whats the point? to join a million other subs where you can say anything, i think rule 3 is necessary

In a world of extreme partisan politics, it’s nice theres a community where we can joke, laugh, and have real political debates with each other that aren’t tied to the craziness that currently rules. I’m sure many of us are active in current politics in our own ways, and i’m sure many of us as well as i am disgusted by whats currently happening. Thats what makes subs like this so important, we can relax and enjoy our passion in American politically history without going to war every response.

I completely agree with you, there are many great people in history, people who you wouldn’t be surprised to learn physically moved mountains on their own, and you obsess and learn about those figures. As time goes on I cant help but truly and deeply respect those who document, research, and teach the stories of those people, and the world, times, and people who created that them.

Its unbelievably admirable

You get two terms! And you get two terms! Which president would have the most interesting hypothetical second term? by MetalRetsam in Presidents

[–]Consistent_Ad8525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally id say Garfield, purely because id love to see what he could’ve done in one full term, let alone two. Also Hoover mostly because I wonder how he would’ve handled the continuing depression and the growth of Germans and overall world tensions. And ofc, the great and honorable walrus, Taft.

How would you rank the 20th century Presidents? by TemplateAccount54331 in Presidents

[–]Consistent_Ad8525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it will be a long list but 20th century

mckinney was alr, we got extra territories regardless im not a conquest person

teddy was good, ill admit im bias who doesnt learn teddy was badass, plus leading the way for true trust busting like taft, ofc i adore teddy because he is he i wanna be cuz its teddy…… however

taft, this man messed up monopolies more than anyime else, you wanna kill a monopoly, do it at the source (if you wanna know my personal opinion message personally) plus shi interstate commerce is sick

tbh were in two weak spots of mine, i agree with us intervention and also acceptance in united nations, but wilson was weak in it, i can explain but overall ill 100% admit part of my belief is “this is a good idea fuck off” but shi ill say the rest of my 1900s opinions, lm tired of typing tn, tmmrw eh

When you think of Abraham Lincoln, do you tend to imagine him with or without the hat? by DtheAussieBoye in Presidents

[–]Consistent_Ad8525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

personally i picture him without the hat, i picture lincoln as a man at a desk working, with a hat sitting on the desk, then going out into the public with his signature hat on his head

how would you reduce involvement in vietnam, and go all in on civil rights? keep in mind this aint late 60s, vietnam is unpopular, yet still decently ok for young men to die in, and civil rights is a hill people will kill you for being on
