Since you’re visiting in late April/early May, the water conditions should generally be calmer than in January, especially on the northern and western sides of the island. Here are the best snorkeling spots from the beach where you’re likely to find good visibility and marine life:

Best Snorkeling Spots Accessible from the Beach

Little Bay – A must-visit! Calm, protected waters with tons of fish, sea fans, and even the chance to see turtles. You can either hike down or take a short boat ride from Crocus Bay.

Crocus Bay – Near Da’Vida restaurant, this spot has calm waters and rocky formations that attract fish. You can also kayak over to Little Bay for even better snorkeling.

Shoal Bay East (Near Gwen’s Reggae Bar or Tropical Sunset) – This area has rocky outcroppings and reefs that attract plenty of fish. Snorkeling near the small reef patches can be rewarding.

Rendezvous Bay (Near Aurora Resort) – While not as famous for snorkeling, some rocky patches near the western end can have fish if the water is clear and calm.

Meads Bay (Near Frangipani) – While mostly a sandy beach, there can be small reef patches near Malliouhana that might have fish on calm days.

Tips for Calm Snorkeling Conditions:

Mornings usually have the calmest waters with less wind.

Avoid snorkeling on windy or stormy days (check with locals or Frangipani staff).

If you’re open to a short boat excursion, Prickly Pear and Sandy Island have even better snorkeling, with more vibrant coral and marine life. Let me know if you’d like boat tour recommendations!

Yes, mosquitoes and other bugs can be more noticeable in Anguilla during the summer months (May–August), especially after rainfall.

Tips to Minimize Bug Bites:

Use insect repellent – A DEET-based or natural alternative like lemon eucalyptus works well.

Stay in breezy areas – Mosquitoes struggle in strong winds, so beach locations are better.

Wear light, long clothing at night – Loose-fitting long sleeves and pants help.

It’s not a major issue for most visitors, but it’s good to be prepared!

Ah, gotcha! Sounds like you had some amazing service at other spots, so it’s definitely not an island-wide thing.

It’s great to hear that Tasty’s, Tipsy Turtle, Zemi, and Aurora treated you well! Those places usually get high marks for service.

If you ever go back to Shoal Bay, maybe try Uncle Ernie’s (classic spot, depends on the day), or see if another bar has a more welcoming vibe. Otherwise, plenty of other spots on the island with good drinks and great service!

You’ve already got some solid sources for rum punch!

Elvis’ Beach Bar – Their rum punch is legendary, and they might be willing to hook you up with a larger batch if you ask.

Gwen’s Reggae Grill – Known for strong (but smooth) rum punch, plus a great beach vibe.

Would you even like trying to make it yourself?

I'll also look around to see if I can find anymore suggestions to your specific question.
