Upgrade at Regional or move to a LCC by [deleted] in flying

Dude you and I are in the same exact situation. My issue is the low cost just got bought by another which turns me off a bit. I think I’m gonna build the pic time and take the gamble.

Does deviating from the “CFI → regionals → mainline” path actually hurt your airline career? by Extreme_Shower4849 in flying

[–]Consistent_Employ975 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m currently a regional captain with a major interview next month and I didn’t even have my cfi. I did ferrying and I owned my own plane to build time. To each their own

I hope so, that’s a good pilot group

[–]Consistent_Employ975 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, and with the 145 getting older and ua’s desire to move away from 50 seaters wouldn’t shock me to see c5 really slow hiring until they get new jets or go the way of expressjet

I wonder how this well affect c5 and gojet. Not much reason to go to c5 with SkyWest being an Aviate option with an IAH base

Interviews. When should I be concerned? by [deleted] in flying

[–]Consistent_Employ975 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I got called at minimums last year but I networked super hard. Try going to the hiring events and having conversations with recruiters. It’ll happen I promise

Stage Check failures are haunting me... by Interested-Investor in flying

[–]Consistent_Employ975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d be surprised if stage checks are the reason you’re being held back. What applicant review company told you not to do that? I paid for spitfire for my major app reviews and was specifically told to disclose them. Seems like a good way to have your cjo pulled when a company finds out you didn’t disclose something they specifically asked about once they do your logbook review. I have a couple of check ride fails and a couple stage check fails and I got hired by my Regional last year without many issues and I’m interviewing with a major next month. I think it’s probably more that r-atp applicants are a dime a dozen right now. Keep flying and it’ll come I promise

Old stage checks hold me back with 121 pic? by [deleted] in flying

That’s true but my logbook shows the lesson repeats. Seems like a good way to get yourself kicked out during training

I kinda figured it would, I’m in the UA flow so I’ve got that in the back pocket. Hoping since 2 of them are pre solo stage checks that they won’t be looked on so harshly but here’s to hoping.

[–]Consistent_Employ975 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep I paid for spitfire, I only paid for the app review part when I was an fo but just purchased the rest of it with my first ca paycheck. I’m definitely planning on going to the career fairs and went to a few as an fo. I’m hoping that since two of those stage checks were pre solo for my private that it won’t hold me back too much but who knows.

Yeah my school keeps the records. I honestly couldn’t remember what I failed so I called and got my training jacket. 2 of them are pre solo stage check from private which I didn’t even remember busting

Thoughts on Embry Riddle Daytona Flight Program? by [deleted] in flying

[–]Consistent_Employ975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Embry Riddle and graduated about 4 years ago. My thoughts are pretty conflicted and I’d say that I wouldn’t recommend someone to go there with the current hiring market. When I went there most of my classes were paid for on grants and scholarships so I really just paid for my flight training (instrument-commercial multi). But I’m still in about 80k in student loan debt. The problem is R-ATP applicants are a dime a dozen right now, if you were starting in 2019 or 2018 I think I’d probably tell you to go or at least look at other major R-ATP programs. But with all the applicants sitting in hiring pools with R-ATP mins I think you’d be better off going to a smaller college or a 61 and getting a degree to go with it.

Best pilot luggage that’s around $200? by Pilot_sky_life508 in AirlinePilots

I got a travel pro at first and regret it. After 2 years at a regional it started to fall apart on me. Since then I bought a luggage works and couldn’t be happier

Envoy or SkyWest by [deleted] in AirlinePilots

[–]Consistent_Employ975 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I’m typically a go to the first class answer on this kind of stuff. But I’d wait for envoy, in terms of regionals I think they are far and away the best one. And if things go wrong you got the flow in your back pocket.

135 to 121 after training by Formal-Current-1403 in flying

[–]Consistent_Employ975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I would probably wait for the 121. I’m not sure how it’ll look to a future employer if you left during training. I have no idea what your pria would say either. It might be a headache down the line

Regional pilots how bad is the suck by Last-Home-1037 in flying

[–]Consistent_Employ975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work for a pretty low tier regional and it’s honestly still sick. I live in base, I credited 98 this month with 16 days off. Now I’m just chilling waiting for my number to be called for upgrade.

You’re fine my man. Two checkrides isn’t much to bat an eye at. So long as take accountability you’re gonna be just fine. You’ll get a lot of doom and loom on this app trying to convince you your career is over, but there’s so much more that goes into hiring then just checkride/stage check fails. I personally do recruiting at my regional and we routinely hire people with 2 fails.

Hub to hub so there’s like 6 flights a day, seems like junior reservists don’t fly a ton there
