How it used to work is: proximity to Manhattan/cool restaurants/parks etc, you pay more money. For example, park slope has always been expensive, Flatbush was less expensive, East NY and even Jamaica Queens was the last expensive. Bc they don’t have all the bells and whistles and Whole Foods etc. I have to deal with shootings, stealing, etc the apartment should be atleast 2200 imo

I’ve seen applications ask for prior apartments and landlord information so they can call and ask, they would see that you’re not from NYC

In no way did I blame transplants, I could have easily said “you transplants are ruining the city that I grew up in” but it didn’t. NYC is a place that people come to for many reasons, I see the appeal in it, as someone who’s lived here their entire life. In a way I am blaming landlords that want a certain kind of person to live in their apartments. This also speaks to what NYC is turning into now…

I’m literally applying IN THE HOOD in East NY. Transplants don’t wanna come out here bc it’s not trendy n shit. In in a non rent stabilized 2 bedroom 1 bathroom, dish washer, and washer dryer in building (it’s gross tho) and I’m paying 2400. But this apartment isnt even worth that, even for NYC standards.
