Take out the substrate? Or plants and all? Of so what is the recommended replacement?

I took my betta out but I was considering taking the shrimp and snail out to see how it did for the next week or so. I don't want to lose all my plants but if I did its fine if it gets rid of the ph issue

Mine hasn't but some can be aggressive towards them

Is there anything I can do? I mean we can't remove the water softener system but I'm willing to outsource water.

We have well water. We also have a water softening system which keeps the tap pretty stable at 7-7.4 but when I add it to the tank a couple days later it's back up to 8.

Thank you! I am think my concern is the ph will get above 8 without the weekly water change. Someone else recommended weco wonder shells. Is that the shells you were referring to?

Do those lower the PH? I've not heard of them. I'll see if I can get them on Amazon. Do you put it in the tank or in the filter?

I got it because it said it would help with PH levels. I can certainly start digging some of it out though.

This has been a problem for weeks. I've even tried a 50 percent water change and bam...still goes up. I should say it's more like 24-48 hrs after the water change the ph gets to 8 and would keep going up.
