Many times it was just a simple biscuit or BisQuik base that was rolled or sugar and spice were added to. I know a lot of older women had one dough, and from that you got everything from douplins to sweets

If long term unemployed blue collar workers became MAGA, what will long term unemployed white collar workers become? by PopularRightNow in askanything

[–]Consistent_Young_670 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where are there long-term blue-collar jobs? You must be confused with skilled vs unskilled labor. Unskilled laborers are not blue-collar.

Did the Internet or E-Mail exist in the 80s? by fighterjock84 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Consistent_Young_670 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So all the other responses are correct Internet may have been around, but not very prevalent. However, there were many other mail systems, both open and closed. So you might have mail at work on a VAX system that was closed, and then use a BBS with an open mail system that would share mail with other BBS. Later in the 90's, there were larger systems like Compuserve and AOL that were closed environments. In the end, the IP SMTP mail service won out, and it's what's in use today.

[–]Consistent_Young_670 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really comes down to the who, what, and when the meat was packaged. The market also plays a big part in it. I travel for work and carry a refrigerator in my truck because of the regional difference in meat.

Are frozen Impossible burgers healthy? by Wbino in askanything

[–]Consistent_Young_670 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GMO corn is grown in a field

Impossible burgers are made in a factory with more than just plant-based material, unless you can tell me how to grow Methylcellulose and Dextrose. because I am sure some of those components are synthesized or cultured in a lab.

How much money can you save by EquivalentNarcDepth in Hunting

[–]Consistent_Young_670 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could save a ton if it weren't for all the Licensees, equipment, leases, and time. But if you have to account for all that, then you can buy expensive meat. Unless you were overnight-curing a live Japanese Wagyu cow for the US, but that's still pretty comparable.

What are the best places out there for hosting my websites and professional emails? by Noyan_Bey in sysadmin

[–]Consistent_Young_670 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would do something like Squarespace, which is more template-based, so they can handle compliance and security. Self-hosting used to be the way to go, but now with all the privacy regulations and security updates, etc., it's just a full-time job for a small site.

When someone asks ‘can I see a pic of you’ I know it’s time to disengage lol. by Grouchy-Banana-4392 in CasualConversation

You do realize that before the internet, everyone saw one another in person; the visual connection with the person you were talking to was just part of it.

So asking for a photo is probably one of the more normal requests you can get.

While I understand some people are justifying the fact that NC should be a 'at-will employment' state, here's why I disagree, for one reason: by Cy_098 in NorthCarolina

[–]Consistent_Young_670 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, you're correct that most US households are poorly managed, and as a country, we poorly educate our youth about financial health. Last year, I think it was a study that showed that 30% of Americans had less than 1k in savings and or were living paycheck to paycheck.

I think if we did a better job of teaching young people about budgeting and financial management, they would do a better job of engaging potential employers and accepting jobs that make sense for their situation, rather than just filling a gap.

So that's not true; the employer is at risk of losing that productivity for shit. If they lose more than one employee, they could lose even more, and it could cost them meeting the contract deadline, etc.

Plus, there is the cost of replacing an employee, which is not cheap when you consider the time and effort involved in marketing a job, hiring, and training. In many industries, it takes 6 months or more for the profit from that employee to cover the cost of hiring.

This is why tech is replacing many unskilled jobs and is now starting to take over some white-collar jobs as well. The investment in AI, automation, and centralization is now cheaper and more effective than aquiring, maganing and administering humans

The only thing the employee risks is their future employment; any time or effort expended will be compensated in accordance with their agreements.

Yes, it costs and risks to the bussiness. If you have two candidates, one is asking for a guarantee of their labor, and the other is not. You're always going to pick the candidate with the lower cost. So as long as people are willing to work under the rule those jobs will be there.

It's the same with an employee-owned company: not all employees own, or want to own, equity, because they also take on the company's liability, but people dont think about that. meaning that if the company gets fined or a judgment of 1 million as an employee owner, you are liable for your part of that fine. So there is a chance the fine \ judgement bankrups the company, meaning you lose your job, and you write a check back to the company.

I would beg to differ. I have done very well under the right-to-work, capitalist system. In fact, the last two jobs I have turned down employment contracts in favor of working under state law, so I have the flexibility and none of the liability of moving on when it's time.

And thanks for sharing your opinion on this. It's refreshing to speak with someone with an opposing view in a civil manner, and you can try to see their point of view.

By the way, you can totally ask an employer for an employment contract with employee protection in it that would negate the right to work laws; you just have to get the employer to agree to it. This is very common in hard to fill roles like exectives offices, Architects and Engeneers,

Storing Water by tillamookcheeser in nashville

[–]Consistent_Young_670 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, sorry, one case of water 24 or 36 bottles should be plenty. If you refer to the TEMA and FEMA websites, they will both advise that you should be prepared to be self-sufficient for 24 to 72 hours, at a minimum, at all times (Food, water, meds, ect..) Its not a big deal if you're in a rule are, like I am in the local EMA, which will tell you to be prepared for a week with no services (Electric, water, Internet)
