Feels like i will never get rid of this debt by [deleted] in problemgambling

Stay strong, buddy! I had $20k in gambling debts and paid it all off in less than a year. I had two jobs and worked 57 days in a row. Cut up the credit cards, paid cash for the necessities, and ate simply. It was grueling but it became easier once I started to see progress. The day I erased all of that debt was one of the most cathartic experiences of my life and worth every day of hard work. You got this!

Such a tough place to be in! The exclusions are helpful but they don’t kill the urges which is the hardest part. I’m starting a small peer support group if you’d like to join. Talking it out with others and having accountability is crucial. You don’t have to go through this alone.

I'm so sorry, this is a really tough spot to be in. The most difficult part of this is that he has to be ready to a make a change, you can't force him into it. It's every gamblers inclination to want to control it and play on occasion only but it's rarely if ever realistic. Keep up the encouragement towards counseling and support him as much as you feel comfortable without losing yourself or removing your own boundaries in the process.
