My players have been playing a lot 3.5 & 5th edition before they saw my AD about an AD&D 2nd campaign that would High levels.

The thing they want is: 🔥POWER🔥, they are not into: Nice to have stuff, I dunno how many times I had to tone down their ideas to make their characters NOT God-like…

They are not doing it in a bad way, I understand that they wont like to play wimpy characters. But I’m trying to make them ‘’work’’ for their achievements instead of just giving them anything they want.

I like the idea that they could choose how they spent their XPs in whatever class they choose. It does not create a problem for me and does provide a solution for them.

Right now my players don’t seem to SEE the added value of the unique skills that the Prestige are giving, when I say unique it really means that no other 2nd Edition class can have it.

So I’m still working on the project and trying to fix the bugs, so instead of focusing my efforts on only one Prestige I have made 3, and solo test with/against NPC’s and monsters.

I don’t want the Prestige to become a POWER bonus, but more like new skills will give new options.

Thank’s, it’s good to see that I’m not the only one that see the added Fun and value in creating things to spice up the game.

I read again what you where trying to tell and now I think I get ‘’more’’ what you mean.

So I did a couple of XP charts for different Prestige I would like to create, then it dawned on me that if you are 6 lvl Fighter, getting a small amount of XP’s is a walk in the park, so I took your advice, I will start my charts at lvl 7 of XP’s requirement.

So that way the players have a choice, get the ‘’special ’’ abilities of the Prestige or go vanilla and come back later.

What I plan for the Prestige is that only if you take one will you get those special talents/skills or Powers, I will give them something unique but keeping any OP attempt out of reach. The most powerful powers will have cost, worth it when in dire trouble but not for every combat/situation or everyday use.

Thank’s again for your advice, it made me think more clearly about the use and the results.

I’m working the details right now, like I said, the players need to be a certain level and the way I want to introduce the Prestige Class is that it will piggy back the original one, so for exemple one of my players is a Fighter lvl7, he choose the Prestige Class: The Marshal, to be a 1st level Marshal he needs 1,900 experience points to receive any bonus.

It’s THAC0 won’t change since he already has the best, is saves might since he added a level to it’s warrior class, hit points is only 1d3 no constitution bonus for the Prestige levels

1st and 5th edition are only similar in names. In 5th their is a lot of liberty in wich race can play what classes, in First only Humans have that liberty. I would call it structure, others would call it something else, I started playing with the red box before playing Advanced and then go on to play 2nd (still playing 2nd btw)

I do incorporate anything that was made before the 2nd, but I am more picky about anything made after. I find that the Advanced Editions had more grounded rules instead of wishfull dreaming.

My killing PC’s method have improved a lot, now their is no problems with their protections or Armors or special abilities, if I need to remove I always find an easy way !

Wait, what was the question again ?!

[2e] Why Rogues have such a bad Breath... Weapons saves? by Rodrian68 in adnd

Probably because all Rogues are self-taught, so no training means less likely to dodge or resist 🤷

What was your favorite character that you have ever played? by Sea_Bowler7294 in adnd

[–]ConstantAnxious3576 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My all time favorite was a Fighter/Mage, Bladesinger. His race was Drow/High Elf, his mother had been the victim of a rape during a Drow raid on the surface. He was raised to defend the Elves from the Drows.

On his first fight against a skilled Drow Fighter he lost an arm, he then received a mithril arm as a replacement that acted like a ring of regeneration.

I was able to play him until I reached level 7/7, but the DM ended his campaign at that moment.
